Energy Suppliers

So the following are the average rates for direct debit on the New cap.
Subject to slight regional variations.

The cap is based on 2900 kWh Electric and 12,000 kWh Gas.

Gas
Standing Charge 27.22p a day (£99.35 a year, £8.28 Month)
7.37p per kWh (£884.40 a year for 12,000 kWh, £73.70 a Month)
Combined (£983.75 a year for 12,000 kWh, £81.98 a Month)

Electricity
Standing Charge 45.34p a day (£165.49 a year, £13.79 Month)
7.37p per kWh (£821.86 a year for 12,000 kWh, £68.49 a Month)
Combined (£987.35 a year for 2,900 kWh, £84.34 a Month)

Both combined (2900 kWh Electric and 12,000 kWh Gas)
£1,971.10 a year
£164.26 a Month DD

Final price could be subject to any deductions / rebates.
You have used the same unit price for gas and electricity. No where is giving 7.37p kWh for electricity now, so that must be a typo.
Also, you have used 12,000 kWh of use for gas and electricity, which in your first sentence you said electric use was 2900 kWh.

Think you meant to use this price for electricity (28.34)which based on that usage (2900) is £821.

Interesting.

What did you lads who got fixes around 2-3 months ago get? Also what was your early exit fee?

People quoting price / month doesn't really help, prices are based on usage, not flat bills like mobile contracts or broadband.

Most people who pay DD monthly with estimates are often well off actual. I pay mine via DD but based on readings each month.

True. For clarification the £320 a month I was quoted, was for an annual useage of;

Elec - 5500kwh
Gas - 22,500kwh

That's with a monthly smart meter useage sent to octopus. That's for a 4 bed detached but not typical use due to my circumstances.

Technically I will be classed as in fuel poverty come April! (As I believe its if your annual fuel bill is over 10% of your yearly earnings)

I fixed at this.
Remember most said I was crazy. I think everyone did.
Very start of October I got this.

Fixed until September 2024

Elec
Standing : 23.6
Unit : 21.3

Gas
Standing : 25.3
Unit : 5.1

No exit fees

Also my 201 pounds cash back just cleared. So covered nearly 2 months of payments over winter.

Electricity is particularly important working at home full time. So paying 21p rather than 28 is significant

Apparently its looking like October is going to be 2300 at present so I'm very happy about my Choice.

Fixed, it was late, the totals are correct. :)

On my usage this increases costs from £99.59/month to £179.43.

I think may have been one of them. At the time I am not sure I was aware the current cap would be expiring in April. Apologies, well played sir :D

A quick question.
I have a Smart meter (Secure Liberty 100), how do I view my energy usage - Is there an app or device I can get?

Thanks :)

I'd love to feel good about it. But this is going to cripple the country. People will likely hold back spending for fear of the winter coming.

Is also disgusting how pre pay meters are locked to a higher price than DD.

People will die this next winter. I have absolutely no idea what the government are going to do it it does go up to 2300 in October.

I live in a area where there are quite a lot of poorer people and the Facebook group is not only filled with fear but misinformation. Some people saying 'look around and fix' others '700 percent increase' etc etc. Really brings it Home what life is like for so many people.
Many don't even know what they pay or what type of tariff.

Things are looking bleak.

as you said totals were correct ...

but the whole cap rate strategy seems confusing to me in so much that suppliers just have to ensure average users have the total bill that matches cap,
but suppliers don't have to match those standing charges or unit prices across all variable rate contracts (with regional corrections) , for high low usage users, direct debit / pre-payed ? I'm a Bulb refugee.
is there a good explanation somewhere ?

still strikes some additional smaller companies will fold - this morning they are re-asking for 3 month cap updates ... so if there hedging on fixed contracts prooves inadequate, can at least transfer some burden to those on variable rates.

Hopefully with a return to the office and the warmer months ahead, the monthly usage will stay relatively low and will help offset the extortionate prices slightly.

I'm tempted to stay on the svr until October and reassess, however that could backfire massively.

Increase from £115/month to £262/month come 1st April :(

We are going from £120 a month to about £260 a month, which includes my fuel as I have an EV. That's on Octopus Go which we are switching to in 3 weeks.

The Go standard elec unit cost is high (30.7p kWh) but when you factor in the off peak charging rate (7.5p kWh) and a lower standing charge, it saves us about £50 a month over the 1st April price cap. It also means that if I use my car more , I save more, compared to if I was on the cap price, due to the very low Go off peak rate.

Yup, I'm on Octopus Go as well, no longer have an EV, but stayed on it as it was still the lowest rate at the time, even without considering charging. Unfortunately the fix ends on April 1st, same time as the new cap kicks in, so double whammy for us.

Hmmm, so if you stay on the SVR post 1 April I wont pay more than 28.34p per kWh for electric and 45.34p a day standing charge?
I think that is slightly cheaper than the 1 year fix i just signed up to last night . I guess it saves me from any increase in October though.

The guidance from Martin Lewis for most people with energy deals ending now is to go onto the standard cap pricing from 1st April, as it will be cheaper than any fixed deal. There are obviously a few circumstances for some people where this isn't true (e.g. people with EV's doing higher mileage).

As for the October increases - no one knows for sure yet but if the cap goes up then a fixed now, may be better longer term.

I believe current thoughts are come October another hike.
