not going to lie I have no idea.
I need to look into whats going on.

Whats every one elses usage per day or as close to?.

let me break it down a little now lol

I am using 1.3Kw

I have a laptop running (what I am using)
CCTV plus the monitor
My sons PC running i5 760
My sons mate is over on our HTPC also an i5 760 but on a 42"lcd TV that is old (this uses a bit)
My daugter up stairs with her mate using phones etc
router and modem on
kettle on (runs all day but does use little power once boiled I have tested).

When its just me or wife home its no more than 550w till the kids get home LOL.

This does not include the cooking ETC that will be started soon.

P.S

oh yeah forgot and the HUGGGEEE grow I got going to LOL.

P.P.S

oh also I forgot I am on an economy 7 meter I was told there terrible these days and was mainly used for when people had heaters ETC but now we have central heating.

It goes down at night 10pm till I think 9am

Thanks

We average less than 10kw a day, so 1/3 your consumption. I've only ever seen 1kw+ on the smart meter when a kitchen appliance was going and I have a 200L fish tank running 24/7.

Do you have loads of halogen/incandescent lights as well? The non-LED spotlights are normally 50W each, a large room could have 10+, they really add up quickly. LED's are 4-6W each.

nope I actually changed most lights for LED :( so not that :(.
hmm really do need to get to the bottom of this then.... or it just might be we are a big user of it :(

IS your neighbor leeching your leccy lol 550w+ seems super high maybe you should go around the house and inspect stuff and unplug/replace certain things or even get a smart plug so they aren't on all the time

I am going to kill the swicth (from the mains trip box) and see what I get.
I will need to leave the trip on for downstairs sockets lol other wise the actuall smart meter wont actually work. but shall give me an idea if any thing is a miss

Does it not have a battery so you can walk round with it? or a micro usb connector so you can run it on a powerbank?

nope :( its one I got from the "rain forest" ;)

@dragonslayer yep I am going to do just that :).

thanks all shall keep you all posted.

P.S

shall also turn off the heaters and fans I have going 24/7 ;) LOL

it's the pc's simple as

you wot mate?

550W is nothing. it's literally the normal idle for most houses.

fridge freezer, router, modem, cctv, smart tech, etc.

one pc will use 550W on it's own.

i bet you his son is using the pc's 24/7 for mining or some crap.

Do you have night storage heaters? 5.910 at 8am is massively excessive if you don't. Ours is 0.79 at 8am and usually between 8.5-13 kwh per day depending on if it's a washing day. There is no way a i5 760 pc is pulling 500w at the wall unless you have a extremely high power gpu paired up with it.

Hmmmmm ok you lot

looking at the meter at 8am it is currently reading 5.910 used so far WHAT since 12 last night (resets each day).
Damn :O.

8 hours and 6kwh

so 750W per hour

that is the equivalent of 1 pc running overnight on full power and all the other stuff you have on in the background.

your usage isn't high at all.

he has other things running too. fridge, freezer, smoke alarms, house alarm, router, modem, clocks, chargers, cctv and monitor.

a pc will easily pull 200-300w. so then add another 200-300w for other stuff and it's quite easily just a pc left on all the time.

Twice as high as the average UK home, which usually only uses 200-300w per hour until 6am. https://www.ovoenergy.com/guides/energy-guides/how-much-electricity-does-a-home-use.html

My highest total daily usage so far this year is 12kwh, which involved 3 loads of washing + dishwasher load + me gaming for a few hours on a my laptop (180w psu). Solar panels would have given around 1-1.5kw on that day, so call it 13kwh in total.

Starting the day at 6kwh does seem a bit odd, based on the link the average house would start the day on about 2kwh.

like i said his son could have a pc mining overnight. it is odd therefore he should be investigating what it is. or does he have an electric heater on overnight with temp control.
