England and Wales are no longer Christian nations...

To be entirely fair, the great majority of British Subjects that ticked the box on the Census alongside “Church of England” over the last 40 years have been “Christenings, Weddings and Funerals” believers.

People haven't changed and they're still looking for a group to belong to which sates their spiritual appetites, unfortunately most of the 'new' religions grifts are just as abusive, exploitative as the old ones... but that's life I suppose.

Going to church was for the most part an activity to fill out part of a rather empty day and for some it was merely entertainment so once the TV was widespread (then games, internet etc) those people had very little reason to sit in a cold pew listening to a boring sermon, so without the feedback loop the organised became disorganised and people have had very little reason to identify as such when they practice so little.

True, even 30 years ago there wasn't a great deal to do on a Sunday. Shops were barely open as I recall, as it was Sunday which was "church day" (though thankfully, not in my household)

To be fair I suspect a lot of people like me also put they are basically non christian.

What I like is the UK life that has partly evolved from christian views, broadly. But I do not believe in god, nor that there was a Jesus (well a fella maybe but not risen from the dead etc).
There are some parts less attractive, and some of the least christian people I have met have been practicing christians! (much like the US versions)
I do not believe however that if there was some powerful being you would need to follow prescribed ways to worship them, nor specific places needed. Thats 100% a control mechanism by all religions to control your views (stop you straying mainly), and more importantly to get hold of your sestertius

If however a somewhat unlikely religious war broke out in the UK I would for sure with no doubt be a Christian should I be pushed to choose one thats got a large following in the UK.

I think a lot of the reason people are dropping out of Christianity is because its not taught properly in the churches.

I've always called myself a Christian yet for most of my life I've never been to a church, or read the Bible.

When I finally did read the Bible I realised just how much spin these supposed vicars/pastors put on.

Real Christianity is for the most part isn't taught in the Church. Maybe an irony but the very thing Jesus warned against in the churchs as happened.

I suppose it's not as depressing as some of the other GD post's. Might as well re-name it General Depression.

We do like a bit of doom and gloom on here.

I actually thought it was positive so many people say no religion.
