Apart from kane our strikeforce is poor lets be honest

look at days gone by when we had cole/ferdinand/shearer/sheringham/owen

puts this squads strikeforce to shame

You say about lack of strike force then bring up defenders.

Kane is way better than both Sheringham and Shearer. This year is one of the most exciting attacks we've ever had and the majority are young lads with lots of time and development ahead.

I agree on the defence being lacklustre compared to previous times particularly centre half and also central midfield.

Im talking about out and out strikers not attacking players theres a clear difference

hope he scores and makes southgate look even more of an idiot

Southgate has said he wants Lingard to go out there and prove him wrong .... so what happens if he has a 10 and scores a hat trick? Nothing, pointless exercise.

I guess he can be used as cannon fodder so that the likes of Foden/Sancho etc won't get crocked.

you can rotate squad right up to tournament start - due to covid and blah blah blah. It's Southgate's way of saying "earn it". It's also a very clever way of applying pressure in a friendly. The guy will feel the pressure of "I've got to perform right now". Potentially a good window as to whether he can show up when it counts. Shame he hasn't done the same for Kane. He goes missing when it gets to crunch time too often for my liking.

Maybe not but the game has evolved where our wide players contribute just as much with goals.

I do agree though that if Kane gets injured we are buggered. Greenwood would be a decent sub but isn't going, Rashford is best off the left and DCL is just a massive drop.

And like I said you named 2 out and out goal scorers and Kane is better than both. We do miss a world class second option, that being said Greenwood nor Lingard is going to fill his boots.

I would have taken Lingard over Trippier however.

Is Kane better than Shearer, Owen, Rooney, Lineker? We didn't win with any of them, and Shearer had Sheringham, Owen had combos of Shearer, Sheringham, Rooney, Rooney had himself (and I guess Heskey, Defoe and Crouch).

Kane, Rashford and Sterling is not a better prospect than those front lines of old surely?

WC90: Lineker, Beardsley, Bull (Robson in midfield)
Euro92: Lineker, Smith, Shearer, Merson
WC94: DNQ
Euro 96: Shearer, Sheringham, Fowler, Ferdinand, Anderton
WC98: Shearer, Sheringham, Owen, Ferdinand, Anderton, Merson
Euro 2000: Shearer, Owen, Fowler, Heskey, Phillips
WC2002: Sheringham, Owen, Fowler, Heskey, Vassell,
Euro 2004: Rooney, Owen, Vassell, Heskey
WC2006: Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Walcott
Euro2008: DNQ
WC2010: Rooney, Defoe, Heskey, Crouch
Euro2012: Rooney Defoe, Welbeck, Carroll, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott
WC2014: Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Lambert (Sterling + Ox in the midfield)
Euro2016: Kane, Vardy, Rashford, Sturridge (Sterling in midfield)
WC2018: Kane, Vardy, Rashford, Sterling, Welbeck
Euro2020(1) Kane, Sterling, Rashford, Watkins?

It's a bit like the Rooney era again. At least he had reasonable support from Heskey and Crouch in that they brought something different, someone who liked to feed others, and who could hold up incredibly well, and a tall lanky set-piece target. What do the current options give us? At least Ings and Bamford would offer alternatives. We all know from 2016 and 2018 Roy and Gareth have been afraid to play a pace pressing game making scant use of Vardy in his title-winning prime and keeping playing Stirling who couldn't hit a barn door.

We did best in the 90s when we had fast attackers and natural poachers. Our current lot offer some pace, but, with the exception of Kane, aren't exactly what you'd call reliable goal machines. I was genuinely more excited about 2018 than this lot. And that's saying something when Eric Dier is considered a good option. I still think Kane goes missing in the crunch times though - be it PL, CL or tournaments. People say it's fatigue. But is it? Or is there some kind of subconcious thing going on? A bit like people who you know can drive well but fail their test 10 times as they go to pieces on the day.

Bamford or Watkins should’ve been going instead of Sterling, so much for his “I’ll only pick players on form” piece, thought it’d last a little bit longer than this.
