England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

I'm not convinced by Bopara but one thing I missed with Taylor earlier is that he's not scored a single hundred all season. I know this season hasn't exactly been flooded with runs, but that still seems rather poor. Bopara does at least have 3, and he'll be batting at either 5 or 6 rather than number 3 where he was before.
Bopara has 3 hundreds this season? I think Bopara's had his chance with Test cricket. Strauss'll be the next batsman to retire so I think we need to take every opportunity to play a new batsman. Taylor should get a game sometime soon so we can see what his ability in Test cricket is like. We need to keep looking at new talent in all areas to make sure that England keep going on as they mean to do.

It also means we'll have a pretty decent backup bowling option - he's taken 24 wickets @33 this season, better than having to turn to KP to fill in the overs!
Can't imagine Strauss being desperate enough to give Bopara many overs. :p

The odd thing is that Bresnan might have to be dropped to bring Tremlett back!
Yep. That's the thing about being, or trying to be, the top Test team in the world. You sometimes have to drop an in form player for another one returning from injury because they are, perhaps, better for the conditions or offer the captain more bowling options.

I was surprised but - yep! I think they must have come towards the start of the season:

We usually need someone to fill that gap between the old/new ball - Bopara would be the obvious choice. That is of course if they get towards the second new ball ;)

I never imagined this back in the 90s!

England have missed th chance of callling up a promising yougster, are there any? I only watch international matches so don't know whats out there. The team is 2-0 up, theres a winning attitude that will rub on any player, why not give it a go. bopara had his chance and didn't make it, some players aren't cut for it at international level.

Still not convinced he's Test cricket material.

True. Since Collingwood retired we've lost an excellent fielder and a capable part-time bowler. If we can find someone in the ranks to replace Collingwood it might help England go to the top and stay there.

:) I read something the other day about England's rise to the top and how the bowlers for the Windies in the 70s and 80s trained like hell because they knew if they got injured and dropped, it'd take them ages to get back into the team because the bowlers who'd come in to replace them were just as good! So we should enjoy it while it lasts!

Z Kahn only managed 3 overs, safe to say he won't be playing.
Oh dear. I think that Zaheer Khan would have had more impact for India that Sehwag had both returned for the next Test. Players like Broad, Swann and Bresnan have scored way too many runs against India and taken the games away from India. India really do need a bit of bite in their bowling attack.

Its a shame =/ there's two really promising batsmen in the Eng Lion's squad who i would have preferred to see given a chance!

Oh poo, was hoping to see Zaheer. This series really is fizzling out (unless the Indian replacements can pull something out of the bag).

The 5th day is a Sunday this time. Much better for final day atmosphere. I understand that day 3 and 4 are normally at the weekend as these are normally the best days and this probably maximises ticket sales, since the game has developed and you're pretty much sure of getting two days full cricket...but I think having the final day on a Sunday will improve the atmosphere when the result comes as the stadium is more likely to be full. Also Friday will surely be full even though it's not the weekend.

I'll be heading on over to Edgbaston first thing on Sunday to try and get tickets on the gate. Quite a rowdy crowd there, though probably not as rowdy as Trent Bridge!

You're assuming there will be a 5th day :p.

Thats why cleaver people (i.e.: me ;) ) have Day 1 and 3 tickets as well :D

Really think this could be over in 4 days though, traditionally there's been something for the spinners in Day 3 onwards at this ground and Swanny should be chomping at the bit to have a bowl in spin friendly conditions for a change
