England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

I hope for a whitewash for India's sake.
If they pull it back to 2-2 then its just going to paper over the cracks and they'l stroll into the next series under-prepared.. the fans deserve better.

I think you're right. I believe India are where England were when the Aussies whooped arse to win the Ashes down-under.

Suppose the only way is up?

I'd almost like India to win the next one, making the last test really mean something - win for India to level the series, draw to lose the series but keep the #1 spot, or lose and drop down.

And then England thrash them in that final test, obviously. :p

Nah, I want this England team to develop the dominant mentality the great Aussie and Windies sides had. Whitewash 'em. No mercy. Show everyone we're the best.

Can't really compare us to the great Aussie/Windies sides, of course (yet?), but we've got great foundations and depth now. Hopefully the core of the side will stay together for a few years, and really give us something to really build on as new players come through.

In my opinion a great team has to dominate in all formats of the game. This is why people assume India are a great team, number 1 in tests and world cup holders too.

What else makes a great team though? Statistics only go so far. It's how they battle against similar strength teams and this series has shown that India really aren't there, not with the current lineup anyway. Who else out there is good enough to push England? Only South Africa really.

My day 5 tickets arrived too. Just hope we get chance to use them!

I kind of get Sigma's point about excelling in all forms of the game. The great Aussie and Windies sides certainly did that, and England's poor one-day form is certainly a bit of a blot of their record.

But then again, I don't care that much for the shorter versions of the game, and when I think of the great sides of the past, their World Cup exploits don't really register anywhere near as much as their great Test performances. So, yeah, I get what you're saying, but... I don't care ;)

My Day 5 tickets are still MIA :(

Looks like we'll have a bit of an ocuk contingent at the match. I'm praying for day 5 as well! Got to try and find a way to sneak some gin and tonic into the ground because the other half wants some, and it'll be so expensive inside.

@strumpus: couldn't agree more. Don't really care much for the one day.

They won't be going to the extremes of checking for opened bottles in bags etc surely?

I can't see how someone can't care much for one day cricket. Whilst test cricket is probably my favourite form of the game I love all types of matches, it's what makes the sport so great, sure T20 isn't the best for pure cricket but it's still entertaining.

Warmup game today vs Northants for India.
Sehwag, Gambhir and Kahn back.
Sachin rested (considering his form so far i would have thought he'd want all the practice he can get)

Apparently Swann and Trott should be good to play next weekend.

Zaheer I assume?

Yeah sorry, he still looks unfit and bloody over-weight though.
Good job India's batting first

Re: Swann and co, they are doing some meeting and greeting with the fans at local cricket clubs (Sunday) and Victoria Square (Monday) in Birmingham if anyone fancies an autograph.
Believe its Swann, Strauss, Trott and Jimmy on sunday, and Swann, Cook and Morgan on Monday
