England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

Well done England for winning the test but even better getting the number 1 test team ranking. Brilliant stuff by England, they have really come on leaps and bounds in the test arena.

Feel sorry for India, completely and utterly been outplayed in all 3 tests so far....they did not look like a number one team in the world with their last 3 displays...shocking stuff from them.

It's bizarre, because it's not like they're blooding a bunch of youngsters. Australia looked a bit of a mess when we beat them in the winter, but then they'd just lost their best players, Ponting's coming to the end of his career, and they had no spinner worth his salt. India have exactly the same stellar batsmen who got them into that top spot, and yet, bar Dravid, none of them produced. And their bowlers were just woeful. Say what you want about missing Zaheer, but when your most committed player is a (semi) trundler like Praveen Kumar, that's got to reflect pretty poorly on you.

Exactly, I could forgive them if they were posting competitive totals but struggling to take 20 wickets given their bowling line-up.

Is there any point in them playing the last match? It's pretty much a formality.

I think they're at the same stage where England where when they got pwnd in the 06–07 Ashes series.

Out come all the non-cricket fans celebrating. :p

Fantastic performance from England and they are now deservedly the no1 team in the world.

India were absolutely disgraceful, questions about Test status would be asked if this was Bangladesh!(obviously i'm not saying that should happen to India) They just looked so disinterested, i think they do have questions to answer about fitness and commitment though.

England have been beaten badly before, especially by the Aussies, but they never looked as poor (and bored tbh) as India did, they were much more competitive

Feel sorry for India

pfft.....

Will India drop down into 3rd in the rankings now? think I saw that somewhere.
On 3-0 they drop to 2nd. If England win the 4th Test then India drop to 3rd. I think for each Test win in a series the winning team gets points, but for a series win there might be some bonus points and for a clean sweep in a series even more bonus points?

If I remember the chart Sky Sports were showing after the match today, India would drop to 2nd on 119 points on a 3-0 loss. South Africa would have 118 points. Therefore another loss for India and a clean sweep for us would surely see India lose the 2 or more points needed for them to drop below South Africa?

+1

I really expected a much tighter series than this, which is going to be a whitewash the way things are going for India...like i said they did not and do not look like a number 1 test team...well now England have that ranking lol.

Not to take anything away from England, they have been utterly awesome in all areas ie batting, fielding and bowling wise they have been immense...starting to remind me a bit of the all powerful Aussies from a few yrs back;).

To think I was so looking forward to this series after the Ashes. When do we play South Africa? :p
We've also won 8 of our last 9 series, since May 2009.

ENGLAND SINCE MAY 2009
Beat West Indies 2-0 (home)
Beat Australia 2-1 (home)
Draw 1-1 with South Africa (away)
Beat Bangladesh 2-0 (away)
Beat Bangladesh 2-0 (home)
Beat Pakistan 3-1 (home)
Beat Australia 3-1 (away)
Beat Sri Lanka 1-0 (home)
Lead India 3-0 (home)

That's actually amazing. :)

Yep. I was looking forward to a cracking series between the two best Test nations in the world. It has still been a cracking series but not because of the cricket India have played but the cricket we've played.

We tour India in October for 5 ODI games and a single T20 game. Seems a bit silly to play 5 of one and 1 of the other. Why not 4 ODI games and 2 or 3 T20s?

We then spend January and February of next year playing Pakistan in the UAE, away to Sri Lanka in March of 2012, host the Windies in May of 2012, June and July 2012 sees the return of our whipping boys, sorry Australia, for 5 ODI games.

We have to wait until July for South Africa to visit us for 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20s (between July and September 2012) before we can really dominate Test cricket. ;)

I think its excellent that South Africa tour England and not the other way round. If we need replacements due to injury or form/selection they aren't too far away. If South Africa need better bowlers to try and get 20 wickets they've got a long flight ahead of them to get someone in from home.

Pakistan are 6th in the rankings and I can't see how they can threaten us on the pitches of the UAE, unless they have more knowledge of the UAE pitches than us. Sri Lanka will be a harder test but they're 4th with no Murali or Vaas and with it being just a two match Test series we should be able to win that series without too much drama. The Windies are 7th so if we can sort the Pakistanis out the Windies, at home, shouldn't be that hard.

So it looks like the first proper test to our status as Number 1 in the world will be South Africa. :)

That's actually amazing. :)
Indeed. I was a bit miffed that the BBC were saying we've won our last six series when I think it sound better to say 8 of the last 9 series have been ours, including the last 6 straight series. A pity the South Africans weren't reading the script

Ah cheers, for some reason they've only got the Sri Lanka tour on our fixtures on Cricinfo, but I knew we had a lot more than that. :)

I only hope the packed nature of all the fixtures doesn't catch up to us.

No probs. There's that Future Tours Programme I think the ICC set up. In a certain period of time, measure in 8 years or something, each Test playing nation has to play all the other Test playing nations with a minimum of two Tests in each series for the series to count towards the Test rankings. I guess series of 2-3 Tests are for weaker sides and 4-5 for the bigger series with Australia probably guaranteed 5 Tests because of the spectacle.

So the ECB knows its got to have x Tests, y ODIs and perhaps even z T20s against all the other Test nations in a period of time. So even if the exact dates of the matches aren't known, the rough dates would be known a few years in advance I think.
