England warm up games **Spoilers**

The one thing that worries me is the Hungary goal, we didn't close him down fast enough. OK you don't expect a strike of that quality, but I can see it happening with Ronaldinho or someone of similiar class in the world cup.

Still haven’t seen anything 'special' from England yet, no world cup winners that’s for sure. Some nice display from Joe Cole, Lampard and Gerrard were quiet so no change there. They have so much to work on; the 3-1 win flattered them. Maybe they never played out of their socks as you would expect but some of the defending and marking was dire, no real flow when passing the ball...

More of the same please! :D :D

Word is this world cup has already been won, an unknown man from turin was seen giving blatter flipping great wodgers of cash ;)

It was that fool hargreaves that didn't close down the scorer...

but sven wouldnt see it that way.he loves hargreaves too much, he probs think its carricks fault for Hungary scoring even when he's not playing :p

Can someone please tell me what Radio 1 were on about this morning when they said that "Carragher was like a fish out of water playing in midfield"?

I thought he played really well in front of the back four, dropping in to cover anyone that went forward, cleaned up where needed and sent some great passes out.

Were they watching the same game??????

I didn't think Carraghers passing was that great, most of the time he played the ball behind the attacking player. Definetely wasn't bad though and he did put in some strong challenges which is something Carrick doesn't do half as much. I think Scott Parker should have been allowed a chance to play there though, not even being in the back-up squad is a big blow to him.

carragher did make some good challenges, but as Alan Hansen said, he took too long to distribute the ball.if carrick had the ball he would pass it forward and wouldnt need to look around as much whereas carragher,he has a few look around and then passes mostly sideways or back and this slows that the attacking threat.
i wouldnt say he played that bad tho, its just that role is for carrick or parker ;)

as a toon fan i would have loved to have seen scott parker in the holding position, i think he was inspirational for us this season and will continue to be next season

as roeder put it, he is our gerrad

scott parker was shunted from the squad.. now the poor lad probably wont get in a world cup...

maybe steve mclaren will look at him for euro 08...

i hope parker continues to play like he already has done for us, fantastic player... im still really happy we snapped him up from chelsea's tea room

Well after watching that match, it is was better than our last.

Beckham was fantastic, ok so he don't run down the wing and take players on and he didn’t make bums stand up out of their seats like Lennon would but, Lennon is not capable of producing balls like we seen tonight that can win us games. In fact I don't think anyone is on that right wing.

I find it funny that people think Lennon should start ahead of Becks, that’s just a joke but each to their own I guess.

Imo Gerrard > Lampard. I would drop Lampard and play Carrick (will probably get slated for this) but I don't think Lampard is all that great for England, I really can't see what the fuss is about.

Everyone knows what Stevie G is capable of. Our team should be built around him imo and if I were England manager I would make him captain without doubt. He would be a great driving force behind our team and command both attack and defence from the middle of the park

Ashley Cole also impressed tonight considering he has just come back from injury. Another plus was Joe Cole who has officially made that left side his.

Crouch is another that always gets slated but he's not really done much wrong when he comes on. Great finish today - He provides something different to our team.

And nice to see Terry pop up for England…. More of the same please!

Good match, not great - can hopefully only get better!

Edit: Oh and Hargreaves needs to be dropped and replaced with Defoe imo

LMAO Doohickey nice one!
I agree with the whole of that except for the Beckham comments.
He certainly played better than I have seen him recently, but he only offers us anything usefull on dead balls. in play he doesn't have it any more.

Well Lennon is the future, but he should be used as a sub. E.g. the last 20 mins when the opposition are tired. He can then use his pace to do some damage imo.

Becks is not the player her was - Granted, but I would still rater have him on the pitch even if he does nothing all game except deliver that one blowing pass which might make the difference or a last min free kick.

beckhams dead ball play is exceptional, but i dont like how it makes us play. we dont seem to know what to do with the ball when we've got it and for long spells in the hungary game we did not look confortable unless winning a setpiece.

Steven Gerrard a couple of months ago:
He said "It annoys me. I don't think there is anything worse than seeing not just a foreign player but any player who has received a knock lying down on the floor to get an opponent booked - or diving when no one's been anywhere near him, If I saw a team-mate doing it I would definitely have a word. It's happened here at Liverpool a couple of times, where players have gone down too easily, and the manager has said: 'Get up, get on with it, don't be doing that. It's wrong'.

"I think managers and captains, leaders and experienced players have a responsibility to grab people after a training session or a game and say 'None of that. That doesn't happen here'." He continued.

Careful now Stevie, your slip is showing......

There's a difference between diving and diving out the way of a career-ending two footed jump-tackle.

He didn't lie on the ground and he didn't jump from the mere contact.. he jumped to avoid the contact.

The tackle was intended for his ankles to stop him scoring.. whether he connected with gerrard's feet or not is a non-issue. The offense was still commited and he deserved to be penalised. A red card would be more suitable imo.

That would stop players like diaby being out of career possibly due to tools like dan smith

Balls, he dived for a penalty, end of story. Did he look down at his legs to check he wasn't hacked to pieces by the savage tackle (lol) coming his way, or did he look at the referee with puppy dog eyes wanting a penalty?

Everyone should quit moaning, all the players were at it last night it just so happens Stevie was the only one who won a penalty and drew the attention.

Bet there would be no complaints if it was the world cup final and the winning penalty.....

Although i agree it was a dive, i also agree that if he hadnt of dived it probably would have been a penalty anyway because of the nature of the challenge.

Swings and roundabouts, give the boy some credit.
