Well I think you're wrong, he is more adaptable (can actually play on the wing unlike Gerrard) is a better tackler, is better at keeping the ball and has scored more goals in less games.
Gerrard established himself as a defensive minded midfielder, went on to play as a box to box player where he's scored as many as 21 goals in a season from there, scored 23 goals the season he played RM, 24 the season before last when he played off Torres. On top of that there was a huge debate at the start of his career that he was a better RB than midfielder (he's probably still England best RB).
Schweinsteiger's never scored more than 12 goals in a season for Bayern despite playing in a weaker league.
Nobody has said he's a bad player but he's not close to being as good as Gerrard or Lampard.
