English & CL Football [6th - 10th Mar 2010] **spoilers**

Oh, my bad I forgot about that :)

Why do I get the feeling that whatever Arsenal do it's never going to be enough, some people will ALWAYS find a reason to discredit Arsenal, it's quite immature sometimes :/

Its mainly because Arsenal /Wenger havent re-invested in top quality additions that the team / squad needs (and theoretically AW has the money for). You have great kids and some really promising stars in the making, but nigh on a whole squad of promise (apart from two or three aging stars) doesnt really cut it for where Arsenal should be

Just as Utd fans are angry at the £80m for Ronaldo which is theoretically available to SAF (and continually confirmed by the club) not reinvested in the team last summer

I'm immensely happy what Wenger has done, it's nigh on a miracle that he's stayed towards the top 3ish with not that much spending and the rewards will come in the long run. On the same day Portsmouth announced they were going into admininstration Arsenal announced massive profits, was a telling moment imo. The future looks excellent for the club, and it came at the expense of short term success I suppose

The mad spending is over and Arsenal's squad looks extremely, extremely promising over the next 5 years, where Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool will definitely need investment, can't knock what Wenger has created :) In my opinion, Fabregas, Arshavin, Vermaelen, RvP are all quality investments, obviously some for the long term, some for the now.

I dislike Sheffield United, a lot to say the least, but if they won the league. They'd be the best team in the league.

You have no worries on that one mate. With how we are playing, I'll be surprised if we finish in the top half. :(

LOL where to start with all those replies :D

I'll only respond to the below

This just comes across as bitter. If Arsenal go on to win the league then yes they deserved to win it and were the best team over the course of the season. Liverpool beat us home and away last season yet we still won the league, were we not the best team last season?

Man Utd only managed to win 1 out of the 6 games against the top 4 last year. I take it they where not the best team last season either...

Quite frankly in hindsight looking back no Man Utd weren't the best team last season, had it not been for Rafa's 'facts' given the position Liverpool were in before and the run they put together after their mid-season implosion, as well as doing the double of both United and Chelsea, and getting two draw's against Arsenal and the thumpings they handed out to Villa and Blackburn in their run in I think it's quite obvious that Liverpool were the most impressive team last season and probably should have won the league

Haha, how can the team that wins the league not have been the best over the course of the season.

Because they were shown to be light years behind the two teams that have been leading the league for the majority of the season

simples

I really don't understand this, the team that won the league, the best team over the course of the season, actually wasn't the best?

Ok, Liverpool were much better than Man Utd last season then. Suppose we've cleared that up

Have to say I'm finding it hard to believe you're not on a wind-up. If you're serious you've definitely got very different logic to most!

Liverpool were definitely not the best team last year, had some good spells of form where they were the best, but overall they weren't. Same with whoever loses it this season. The league title isn't about induvidual results, it's about 38 of them

Isn't it a bit like the old Tortoise and Hare race and claiming the Hare was the best as it was faster in parts, and blew the Tortoise away. The Tortoise wins as it's the most consistent, i.e. better at the task in hand.

I'll get the old 'Gael' cliché out, it's a marathon not a sprint.

Which can come at very favourable times for some and very unfavourable times for others

Generally the team that wins the league ends up doing very well against those teams around them but I'm sorry when Arsenal quite frankly get taught lessons in football by both United and Chelsea no sane person can possible say that they're better and if they're not better than United or Chelsea then they're not the best team in the league therefore do not deserve to win the league

it depends...what u classify as the best... do you mean the most consistent who got the most points overall

or the absolute best team - who could beat any other team and a single loss was just an abboration?

there is a huge difference between the two..

The best team is the team that wins the league, they were the best over the course of the season.

Or are the tables wrong?

If you mean who plays the best football, or is in the best form, that's different.

The best team, is the team that at the end of the season is top.

Whilst in a different competition surely a team who losses at home to a team in the THIRD tier of English football can't be called the best either?

Or if Fulham win at Old Trafford, surely they will have School'ed Man Utd in both games...

Whilst we lost at Ashburton Grove against Man Utd, I don't think anyone can say the corresponding result at Old Trafford was a fair one, so it's not as if we were outplayed both times.

I agree with Tummy on this one, the best team in league terms is the team that finishes top.
The other teams weren't good enough to gain as many points so how can they be 'better' in the league?

Burnley beat Man Utd so technically they are actually better than Man Utd. True stories.

Also, City schooled Chelsea, definitely, definitely a better side imo.

The team at the top, with the most points is the best team come the end of the season.

The other teams weren't good enough over the course of the season.

:) Simples.

Teams hit form at different times, Liverpool for example hit form at the end of last season.

Woah woah woah!

Didn't Barnsley beat Chelsea / Liverpool last season?

Hmm.
