English Football [1st - 5th May 2010] **spoilers**

Likewise, an established team in the CL can buy more players to help cover more games, but look what happened to Leeds, they bought all the extra players but dropped out, and suddenly had a hugely higher wage bill than the league alone could cover, thats why other teams like Everton haven't overspent after getting European football. Realistically it would be premature for Spurs to increase the size of the squad by 2-3 players on high wages of high quality with big transfer fee's, when you could well be out of the CL again next season, at which point wages, losses and big problems could show up.

Spurs have very good finances. One or two 'world class' players will not kill the books if they do not make it to the group stages.

But the other alternative would have been Man City. Surely if we don't have a chance, they definitely don't?

I've not said either have a chance, or don't have a chance.

You said they'd struggle against those teams, I pointed out they did quite well against Chelsea and Arsenal ;) Even managed to beat City tonight.

Teams don't get to be where they are at the end of the season due to "luck" Spurs deserve fourth place :)

No, i agree, but i think that having us play pretty much the same squad, give or take, next season in the champions league is better than have City 'use' a lot of there squad to get them CL football only to go and spend another couple of hundred mill and get a bunch of new starters.

At least the players that earned us CL football will have a chance to play.

That's my view on it anyway. But then again, i am biased. :p

I've just seen a list of the current 9 sides (from the top leagues) expected in the Qualifying round of the CL if all leagues ended as they are now, and looking at them, I don't fancy any of them...Can't remember the whole list but included:

Mallorca, Lyon, Porto, Werder, Ajax, Sampdoria, Celtic

You have AC possibly and Valencia* I think too.

*Unless Spain too also have just the one qualifying entry too. :p

Edit - I've said too too many times in the last two sentances.

Who you'll play will depend on the seedings. Assuming you're not seeded then you'll be looking at the likes of Lyon, Porto, Werder and probably Ajax.

It won't be easy to qualify for whoever finishes 4th. That's why Arsenal must get a result at the weekend.

Unless you get Celtic of course :p

They do. UEFA wanted more sides from smaller European leagues in the CL so they reached a deal with the top leagues where they'll get more automatic places but in exchange the teams that finish in qualifying spots will have to play against a side from another 'top league instead of some eastern european side.

For the first time in 20 years I've just seen Spurs play to their potential and get what they deserve.

Harry you are a magician. GTFI and COYS! :D

Man for man I've always believe we're better than city, certainly a better team and so it proved.

So we almost have the final table:
