English League & European Football [27th Mar - 1st Apr 2010] **spoilers**

On the plus size if we beat Barca at the Nou Camp we should have RvP back for the semi finals as he has said he will be playing within two weeks.

What sort of weird and wonderful world to people live in, where you'd rest your best players in a Champs League quarter final because the other side is 'too good' so you'd lose anyway

It seems the French mentality of surrendering at the first sight of trouble is rubbing off on some of the fans :p

If I was Arsenal I'd much rather win the CL than the Premiership. Its the title they need to really allow them to make the claim that they are truly one of the best teams in the world of the last and this decade. Man Utd, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid x2, Barcelona x2, AC Milan x2, have all won it in the last 10 years (Porto have also won it, but I'd struggle to justify calling them a European powerhouse)*.

Also its not like by taking a risk you are surrendering the Premiership, its a gamble that could pay off on both fronts.

*If you start from 1997, where we start having the current format of allowing non-champions of domestic football play (strengthening the CL massively), we add another Real Madrid and Man Utd win each.

barcelona have great depth in their squad, they will be fine at the nou camp.

arsenal on the other hand, have no fabregas, van persie and a few other key players missing.

barcelona have henry, bojan, militio, etc warming their bench for them. i think they will be fine without pique and puyol. muniesa will probably get a game alongside marquez unless he is injured.

Yeah, resting players in a game you basically can't win across two legs at all, unheard of, especially when going after a title you have a far better chance of getting your hands on.

My word, what rubbish, theres a half dozen teams in the prem league who fielded pointless weak teams in games they could have won in crapper cups, and teams who fielded weaker teams in the league before a cup game when thats their best shot at a cup.

The fact that Fabregas and Gallas wouldn't have been technically rested, but actually not rushed back in before they were ready. Gallas was clearly not at all match fit, it was reckless to play him, he didnt' look comftable from the first second through to getting properly reinjured.

Arguably, Sol Campbell would have played better in the minutes that Gallas was on being free from injury, and having him start, with a hugely lower chance of injury, would have meant not squandering a substitution when he was replaced. So we would actually have been a stronger team had we not risked him. Fabregas was just about match fit, he ran his heart out, closed down 10 times as much as Diaby did, but was still a huge risk. Its not exactly unknown for injured players picking up a different injury right back from a previous one, why? because when your body is focusing repairing one thing, you're not exactly at your peak physical condition.

I think almost every last player in the squad has gotten an injury, been rushed back in and picked up a whole host of niggling injuries on the bounce which has cost us time, and time, and time, and time, and time again for years.

Tonight Arsenal fought well, and let's face it we were out played from the word go. Barcelona owned us during the first half. Hats off to Almunia for those countless difficult saves.

I was fearing the score line to be more harsh but arsenal held there own somewhat.

Why Arsene Wenger didn't bring on Walcott until deep into the second half I find very frustrating, we were dead in the water until he came on. Some of the desions he makes really ***** me off.

Because Walcott's pace is more devestating against an already fatigued team.

Well played Arsenal - how they werent 3 - 4 down by half time is incredible and credit to Almunia, (who then goes and ruins it within 30 seconds of the 2nd half with diabolical decision making leaving him nowhere)

Not sure the penalty was deserved, as last season's wasnt, but fair play it was scored and sets up the away fixture nicely (although I cant believe Barca will be quite so wasteful at home) it should still be a good match

Without Fabregas and Gallas, Im not sure how much Arsenal can do away without conceding but you never know....

Well Gallas wasn't good for the time he was on anyway , a less good fit player, is better than one struggling badly.

Of course, it goes from bad to worse, some papers are confirming Fabregas has a hairline fracture to his fibula, meaning he's out for the rest of the season, Gallas is out for the season and apparently Arshavin might be out for the season aswell.

Worse still is Gallas and Fabregas are already looking at missing the world cup, I'm sure both players will be immensely happy with that, Gallas missing his last world cup, because he was stupidly risked while clearly no where near match fit, end of his contract, has previously complained very loudly about Arsenal's medical staff and his last year of niggling injuries(several seasons ago) he publically slagged them off and left to be treated by the French medical team before a fairly quick and easy recovery.

I'm sure a guy whose seemingly being offered a pay cut to stay to get a two year contract, who thinks our medical staff is a joke, who was risked needlessly and will now maybe miss his last chance at a world cup will definately stay..............

Are people seriously saying that the penalty was dubious still? Not only did he have 0 intention of playing the ball and ran into Fabregas, he's broke his leg too!

Also, Arsenal are more just as wasteful as Barca were last night most weeks in the prem, refreshing to see it the other way round for once

I'm not sure he touched him at all to be honest. Typical Fabregas!

:) He's not Gerrard.

I'm going to need a new fishing rod, he's swallowed the lot!

Yeah, well done. Will never understand why people do these so called 'wind-ups' and then feel some kind of victory when people post a reply, on a forum. Are we to assume you're a WUM and ignore all your posts or just use our mind reading ability to figure out which are serious?
