English League & European Football [27th Mar - 1st Apr 2010] **spoilers**

I think it was a very harsh penalty considering the nature of the challenge, if you can even call it a challenge. Puyol basically just got himself between Fabregas and the ball.

Still, pen by the rules, but seems harsh.

haha are you trying the same thing the other guy is!? I agree, this is fun!

You said Puyol was between the ball and Fabregas though :(? Look at the photo, Puyol is clearly a foot or two behind Fabregas

Also, Fabregas has his eyes firmly on the ball, oddly enough Puyol doesn't. Strange that since he was obv. going for the ball :o!

It was a definite penalty but like I said before an incredibly harsh red card and if it turns out that Fabregas has indeed sadly broken his leg, then he gets even more kudos from me for stepping up under that pressure to take a penalty despite the pain he would have been feeling. I really hope he hasn't broken his leg. From that photo of Puyol and Fabregas, he's obviously stopping a goal scoring opportunity nor does he look even close to kicking the ball away preventing Fabregas from shooting.

Yeah it was a harsh red, I think a yellow would have sufficed but the rules probably say he should go. Not that I'm complaining since Barca having no first choice CB's is pretty much the only way Arsenal are going to scrape through

They've still got Marquez, who was their first choice CB last year, and Chigrynskiy, who was fantastic when he played for Shakhtar Donetsk, so they're by no means struggling for defenders.

Aye cracked fibula. Marvellous. Something's really wrong with our players. Gallas out. Arshavin might miss the next game. Gonna rely on Sol Cambell and Diaby.

If we play Diaby, theres literally no chance, a nervous overpriced striker struggling for goals after a HUGE transfer fee, never before scored against an English team, thats out the window now thanks to last nights defending.

AT home, the whole team more relaxed, less tired, no Fabregas to be worried about. Xavi will get forward a lot more, Fabregas was closed down very fast when he got the ball because they knew what a threat he is. We have other good players but no one as good.

I'm hoping for Denilson/Nasri in central mid, Rosicky on the left or right, and, well, I think Theo will be absymal if he plays as per usual. One shot that should have been saved and making very very little out of a lot of the ball after that. Can waste time late in a game running up the wing and forcing them back a bit, until they realise he'll never do anything with it. He's only a threat when he's played in behind with very little to do but shoot. Diaby was poor not least because his passing, tackling, control, vision and positioning were terrible, but his utter lack of closing down, he was by far the laziest player on both teams and always is.

Someone posted on Footie 365 in the letters section, you can't play 7 men against 11 and hope to win, we got soooo lucky last night, but 3 injured players(Arshavin was also stupidly rushed back in) and Diaby just isn't good enough.

Fabregas and Gallas are both likely out for the season, if both are out for the world cup aswell, well I think its fair to say Gallas won't be at all happy.

Yes Fabregas picked up a separate injury, but he wasn't at his best, Gallas so clearly shouldn't have been played, Arshavin looked uncomftable and was very poor from the start.

If we'd started Denilson/Eboue, we could have actually done something about Sagna earlier, and could have taken off Diaby.

Song is attrocious as a CB though, very worrying. Zlatan's runs in behind the defence were so obvious, he wasn't standing still on the back line, he ran both times from MILES away, but he was both times on Vermaelens blind side, both times Song is looking right at him and fails to track the runs, the second time he steps up AFTER the pass has been made. Awful defending, Sol would be far far better in there, and if we play the very likely 4-5-1 Wenger will play, Song over Diaby any day of the week.

That's why you play unfit and injured players Arsenal.

And Cesc injury has what to do with that?

Cesc wasn't passed "fit" until just before the game was being played.

He clearly didn't look fit, the same for Gallas.

Why Wanger risked unfit players for a game I don't know. It wasn't worth the risk.

Wanger admitted after the game he got it wrong, for Arsenals sake I hope that Gallas and Arshavin aren't out for too long.

Gutted for him that his season is over and he'll now face the possibility of not making Spain's world cup squad in time. I do think Wenger should have forced him to come off when he was taken off the pitch.

And Tummy, these are the exact games you do take risks with the fitness of some players especially if they are the ones who want to play and are saying they can play. Hardly Wenger's fault.

The blame does end with Wanger.

You take risks in the big games, the risks didn't work out this time. While the result might be better then expected, 2 - 2 going in to the away leg.

Arsenal are without one of their best defends and captain.

Was it worth the risk is the question?

Fabregas' injury was a result of a 'tackle' by Puyol not a previous injury he was returning from.

And Wanger? Childish.

I've always called him Wager, just now you decide to notice?

No doubt it was the tackle by Puyol that injured him, should he of being on the pitch in the first place is the question?

He didn't look fit, he had very little impact on the game bar the penalty.

He got booked, he wouldn't have played anyway. Do you really think Gallas' leg would have changed between now and the away leg? He's been out for over a month with a recurring injury, the same would have happened next week too.

Also, you try telling Fabregas he isn't playing against Barcelona in the CL QF at home when he's perfectly able to run and kick the ball. I doubt he would have listened.

Also, little impact on the game besides being the player to put Arsenal on level terms against the best team in Europe, that's not enough???
