English League & F.A. Cup Football [10th Apr - 14th Apr 2010] **spoilers**

I have been pleasently surprised recently, both Bolton and Portsmouth, although underdogs have fought admirably against some of the top teams. Portsmouth obviously faired slightly better than Bolton.

I'm hoping that the Chelsea vs. Portsmouth clash is as engaging as these past fixtures.

It’s a good looking table tonight:

Yeah, just like everybody said they would be this season

I wouldnt knock it just yet, I would guestimate there is a bigger gap between 4th and 5th than there is between 3rd and 4th

If City get 4th, that CL place could easily generate interest from higher calibre players (even if they also want a lot of money) its not such a big leap

If they miss out on fourth, its still not impossible but certainly a lot harder imo (with a potential Liverpool fight back as well as from whoever does get 4th)

So you guys seriously, seriously think they've shown enough this season to suggest they can overtake Arsenal over 38 games? Almost as crazy as people saying Arsenal would be lucky to get 4th/5th this year

They've had a few good games against Burnley and a Birmingham team with nothing to play for but they've been wildly inconsistent this year and have had so many meh games. They're only 4th because Spurs are bottlers and Liverpool are having a horrible season, personally feel both those teams will be at City's level next season, unless City spend another £200m or w/e

Plus, 4th only gets them into the CL qualifiers which are far from a given entry into the CL as they'll have a 0 UEFA ranking which I think means they play a team with a higher ranking?

I think it'll happen now. With Us and Villa being out of contention and Spurs having to play some tough games it's City's to lose. Get fourth and I wouldn't be surprised to see them spend as much as Real did in the summer and then they'll just keep spending until they win the title. We're no longer top 4 and it'll be extremely hard to get back in to the Champions League for a long time.

yes. Remember they've had to bed in a lot of new signings this season, they will only get better. Especially if they buy well in the summer. They've already shown they can beat Arsenal and Chelsea this year and came damn close to beating us, consistency will come when the squad settles down, a couple of good buys and they will be well on the way.

People laughed at Chelsea at this point, remember City have more money than Chelsea ever did. If they back it up with the funds then they will be title contenders in the next 2-4years.

I think the top four will change season on season anyway. I think the only team who will consistently get a CL place will be Chelsea. Arsenal, Liverpool, Citeh and United will fight for the other three.

Even putting aside my support for them, I think United would be the best equipped to take the second CL spot but at the same time, I don't think it's a given.

I just wish we could have Spurs/Villa, even Everton acquiring the funds to have a solid tilt at the top four spots, and really shake the league up.

I would love to see that trio of clubs really compete for top 4 spots - it would make thee league so much more interesting - unfortunately Villa and Everton just dont have the finance to buy the required players (is this the 2nd or 3rd year that Villa have gone off the boil in the last month or so, and while Everton are very well run they appear to have a very thin squad at the top level)

Surprise surprise Chelsea get away with two penalty claims against them at home:mad:

The Drogba one was as clear a handball as you will ever see as well.

Something needs to be done to help the officials. Both FA Cup semis and the League Cup Final were decided by the officials and now they are deciding who wins the league. I don't buy this it all evens itself out in the long run as the small clubs hardly ever seem to benefit against the big clubs from dodgy decisions. Why Blatter said no to any changes to help officials beggars belief. It seems like every big game has a bad decision that sways the result and the governing body is happy to let it continue.

Tottenham vs Arsenal

Spurs vs Arsenal - White Hart Lane

Kick off 8pm

Showing live on Sky Sports.

So what are everyones thought on this game tonight?

This is going to be a huge local derby with Arsenal who can overtake Man U with a win, and Spurs who are seeking that 4th spot.

Both have injuries, Spurs played 120 mins at the weekend, I reckon it's going to be very interesting :)
