English League & F.A. Cup Football [19th - 24th Mar 2010] **spoilers**

such a cynical "tackle" deserved a pen, and Liverpool have benefitted so many times in the past - it had to come back and haunt them sometime

There were other chances that were just missed by the home team (as to be expected the home team seemingly having far more on and off target than the away team), with a "fateful" un-given penalty , who says some of those shots wouldnt have been saved for "fate" reasons alone

Torres could /should (according to reports) have been sent off for two yellows, imagine what the visitors would have done with 10 men for a large amount of the game....

It wasn't a penalty no matter how many times I've watched it, the only saving grace for the decision was that the referee seen it once, and on first viewing I thought it was a penalty, it wasn't until after a few replays that it was clear there was no contact inside the box. Now if Blatter and co had video replays... would that have been a penalty if the referee could see the incident again? I don't think he would have awarded it.

That said, Liverpool were never going to win it, the second half they looked tired. The referee could have also sent off Torres or Carragher so it's not like all the big decisions went to Utd.

It was only after seeing a replay that it became clear that it was not a penalty at first glance I thought it was

I have thought for a long time that certain tackles outside the box should still lead to a penalty

If your player is 1 on 1 with keeper in 90th min of a game and is deliberately brought down then even a red card is not justice

I remember one years ago in a Man Utd game when someone ( Solskjear ? ) committed the most cynical foul you will ever see, he even started to walk before the red card was shown, this sort of thing really ought to lead to a penalty regardless of whether in box or not

completely agree (and yes I think I remember the incident with Ole also) - there was a lot of "niggle" yesterday which often gets in the way of the game itself, most of it was just handbags and stuff but some things on both sides where more.......meaningful

There was a penalty for England not too long ago, Rooney was fouled outside the box but the ref jusdged the foul to continue in to the box.

He gave a pen, it was explained at the time that it's the refs disgression and that it can be the start, middle or end of the foul being commited.

the fact that you didn't ?

LOL

Note to Man Utd players next time you get a pen against Liverpool make sure you score at least two more goals to make it blatantly obvious to everyone that you still could have won regardless

Except in this case, there was no contact inside the box, so the end of the foul was outside the box, regardless of where he went down.

I think it's lame. I remember Danny Murphy doing something similar to an Arsenal player a few years ago at Craven Cottage. I don't appreciate such bad levels of sportsmanship

Didn't think it was a penalty yesterday but I think Mascherano gave him every opportunity to give it so it was awful decision making by him.

The linesman, and the ref judged the foul to have continued in to the box.

You're not going to change the game by complaining.

Liverpool weren't that bad, had they not of missed a couple of chances they could have gotten something out of the game.

It's easy to blame it on a bad decision and not the team.

By the way was anybody else on the Chievo vs Catania game :D? I had a few quid on the draw from about last Wednesday or so. I feel pretty dirty about it

Yeah, a deliberate foul, rightfully red carded and a freekick awarded outside the box. What is so wrong with that?

nothing in that is correct in line with the laws of the game

its is the laws of the game in this sort in instance that I am questioning, Newcastle reallitically gained nothing from the sending off as it was so late in the game, what I am suggesting that in this sort of instance maybe the rules should allow for a penalty to be awarded
