English League Football [6th - 10th Feb 2010] **spoilers**

I think there's two reasons why he wasn't brought on.

1. It would have upset the momentum of the game, which was all us around substitution time.

2. He hasn't played in ages. In a game like this, we can't afford to take that sort of risk.

Although, in hindsight, we should have.
Crouch was useless today.... it wouldn't have been a gamble to have replaced him with Harry himself :p

Also we had a good bench today and after the mid weeks tough game at Leeds we tired a little against Villa who were fully rested. So what did Harry do? Made zero subs!! Yep not a single one

Watching that replay I couldn't even see the Greek catch Fellani :o

Edit: Got to laugh at only 5 minutes of added time given the amount of fouls and substitutions there were in that match. Fergie's had more than that this season just for subs :o

94 attempts, 0 goals vs Stoke, Wolves, Hull and Aston Villa.

I swear we'd score more if we weren't so attacking. :p

Teams panic when we throw everything at them so they play everyone behind the ball.

Gerrard with a cheeky dive for the free kick just before half time? And also Defoe with another cheeky little dive in the area. English players don't dive though.... :o

Spurs are a damn good attacking team, you just don't seem to have any luck lately. You could easily have thumped us, Leeds, Hull and the like, but it just didn't seem to happen. Seem to be a lot of hate towards Villa because we've gone pretty defensive against Spurs, and that makes us a "boring" team. Evidently nobody's watched most of our games where we go all out, and having only conceded 18 goals in 23 games proves how strong we are defensively to go with it. We just need someone more prolific than Agbonlahor, and we'd be a sorted team.

Yes, we took a 2 goal lead against Fulham and sat on it, but we knew our defence would hold up against an average attacking side. If you want boring, maybe go and watch our semi-final 2nd leg against Blackburn, right borefest that.

Haha yeah, seen it on MOTD, was deffo a 5.9 :D

Nice to see Villa holding Spurs as well, so we stay in the 4th spot, and what a cracking goal Man Utd's 5th was, shame he never done it at the the other end though :p

I'm pretty sure Rooney has scored more at this point than Ronaldo had in his best season.

http://www.ronaldoattack.com/stats07-08.php

from the above it seems to indicate 21 Goals for Ronny in the EPL upto beginning of Feb with 7 in other competitions ( I think Ronny may have had a mini break between End of Jan and end of Feb as he only had two EPL appearances then -and no goals, until scoring two against Newcastle end of Feb)

Equal so far - but Ronny gets it for total goals (rather than just EPL), mainly due to a terrific CL scoring rate too

I'm pretty sure Rooney has scored more at this point than Ronaldo had in his best season.

Hasn't everyone scored more at this point this year though, team wise, most main strikers at most clubs, hasn't even Pompie scored WAY more than your usual bottom placed side, simply conceded more.

THis year is just a scoring frenzy, had Ronaldo been here this season, and uninjured, you could see him scoring 50-60 the way the leagues shaping up this year.

But even so as FrankJH has shown, Ronaldo was WAY ahead of Rooney at this stage in his 42 year, his scoring rate to the half point of the season wasn't anywhere near Ronaldo's scoring rate. He's scored 8 since passing the half season point, largely because Hull gifted him 4 goals in a truly awful defensive performance, which is unlikely to be matched again this season.

I still don't know what the point is though, Ronaldo had 3 awful years in terms of goalscoring, Rooney had 3 average, but still far better years, after their first 3 years at the club, Rooney was what, 20 goals ahead of Ronaldo, which you'd expect of a striker vs a midfielder, only Ronaldo's goal scoring for his final 3 years pushed it close to Rooney's.

The thing is people are using the stat to show Rooney's ridiculously brilliant goal scoring, rather than what it really says, Ronaldo was a fantastic high scoring midfielder and Rooney's scoring at the rate you'd expect for a striker, nothing more or less.

Thing is, calling Ronaldo a midfielder isn't really fair, as we all know that the way the Utd team worked at that point wasn't a rigid formation. As for Rooney scoring "at the rate you'd expect for a striker, nothing more or less", he's already got more than Anelka last season in the league. I'm not entirely sure what you expect from strikers, he's just been brilliant lately.

Yes, Ronaldo was exceptional, but channelling the play through him would always give him more chances. I'm still not entirely sure on the point of the debate, both are great goalscorers, Ronaldo's now in Spain, Rooney is still with Utd, and we don't seem to be suffering from his absence.

on the plus side, i've discovered sky remote record when i went i had to go out and forgot to tape motd. how brilliant is it tto be able to set a recording over your phone? although i am considering just stopping up now to watch the early morning one indtead.

being the EPL's importance to everything else (after all look at the dogfight Liverpool are in to get the last CL place), Rooney has a good /great chance to beat Ronaldo's EPL total for that season (32) - yeah I would love him to score more in the CL especially but its time for the Shearer/ACole record (34) to fall imo:)

Thats just ridiculous in the extreme - even before he went away Drogba wasnt scoring huge amounts more than normal, no one at Arsenal to really talk about due to injuries and same with Torres. Defoe went on a hot streak but has since fallen off form again in a pretty big way - everyone else is about normal
