English League Football [6th - 10th Feb 2010] **spoilers**

Gerrard is often ignored by the BBC / English papers for the negative aspect of his game.

His horrible "tackle" in the Everton game, where he slid in to the side of a player.
His dives are constantly ignored.

Ah well.

Nani had to go, yes he got the ball but you cant lunge in like that it's a leg break waiting to happen if he'd got it wrong. Dangerous play = Red card, no complaints

I don't get this attitude. Surely a high leg could fracture a cheekbone or something if you get it wrong, yet that isn't a straight red. As they said on MOTD it's impossible to do a challenge from that position without your studs raised. In the end he didn't go over the ball, he went though it.

Yeah about the Bender one, I do think he was already on his way down, whether that's due to his general clumsy nature or a dive I don't know, but then the Liverpool defender followed through with contact so should have been a pen probably. Then again so should the Fabregas one so fair is fair.

Isnt it to do with the lack of control you have when you dive in like that? A high leg can usually be pulled back if they think they arent going to get the ball but a dive with studs showing is going to hit either way.

That's what they say over and over but (Eduardo aside) when was a leg break last caused by a bad tackle? They are usually just freak accidents.

Hadn't realised that Rosicky smacked the post after buggering up that chance he had. Wenger should tell his players, particularly the ..more fragile ones not to do that.

Saw the Nani challenge, was quite a bad one. By the letter of the law he went in two footed with feet off the ground, even though he got the ball you can't argue with the ref too much.

I think that Bendtner either dived, or went down very easily, there was contact but I only saw the replay once so it's hard for me to say if he was already going down, or whether that slight contact helped him to make his mind up. In those situations it's 50/50 as to whether you get a decision to your favor or not and if I was Arsene Wenger I would be telling the players that unless you are forcibly sent to the ground, such as a shirt pull or a push then don't go down in the box, it's just a waste of time since the Eduardo incident. I believe we've had 1 penalty since and many, many shouts for a penalty, some legitimate, some not.

Also, Gerrard dived twice yesterday but he's English so I fully expected him to get away with whatever he does. The same with Carragher, every time he does something that isn't picked up on, like a little shove from behind, or a trailing leg, or lashing out at an opponent when running shoulder to shoulder, when the ref doesn't notice it, which is about 90% of the time with him, the commentators are always saying how he's streetwise, an experienced old head etc. That's just glamorizing a cheat.

The Fabregas incident looked like a penalty to me, his feet looked like they were on the line and his arm obviously was way up, not that I care now though after the terrible refereeing of not only the entire game, but every single legitimate Arsenal penalty shout since the Celtic game.

As for the game, I think Eboue was poor, on the weekend when he came on he looked threatening, he was beating his man down the wing and he was getting some good balls in the box, yesterday I didn't see very much of that and at one point even Bendtner had to come back to defend because Eboue was caught further up the pitch. Song again was too high up the pitch and I don't think he understands what he's meant to be doing, he still can't tackle either, unless you call bumbling into people from behind like a clumsy ****er, tackling. Arshavin was poor, again, I don't know what's happening to him, maybe he's played too many games and needs a bit of a rest but he's just not been very effective in the last 4 or so matches, he showed great strength to brush off that dirty cheat Carragher but I can't really remember many other plays that he made. He had a good shot, and wasted another shot off the side netting but that's about it. Bendter was also not very good but I'll forgive him as he's only just come back from an injury. Nasri looked good, I don't know why he went off, he looked a bit dazed so maybe it was a concussion.

Rosicky did a decent job of filling in but he should have scored when he was clean through, it was an absolute sitter and he only had to slot it in but took an un-needed extra touch and the chance was gone, made up for it by creating the Diaby goal though. Vermaelen and Gallas were good, Gallas' tackle on Ngog was excellent. Clichy didn't get up to cross it in enough for my liking and he needs to sharpen up. I'm pleased with the result, but it was fairly scrappy and there's still a lot of work to be done and signings have to be made. Luckily Chelsea and Man Utd dropped points yesterday, but realistically we still need to win all of our games, we've dropped 26 points this season and can't afford to lose any more, our title rivals will need to drop some points so as long as we do our part the balls in their court.

How would the Arsenal fans trying to justify Bendtners dive feel if the boot was on the other foot and they had a penalty given against them if Bendtner played for Liverpool. I doubt they would be posting on here saying it was a penalty. It was a dive just as much as any of Gerrards multiple efforts.

Think Clichy was alright last night, looked much more assured in his defending which was what we all wanted. Recently he's looked a big dodgy but I think a large part of that is the new formation providing absolutely no cover to the full backs (Arshavin gets back about twice per game) compared to a 4 - 4 - 2. Teams are doubling up on him all the time

He went down too easily but Agger still fouled him. Gerrard was never touched once :( That's the only difference. That and Bender got a yellow card and Gerrard's weren't mentioned once even though Gerrard's were both much worse. Used to that though.

True but the way he left his feet and lunged in is still reckless and dangerous

Had he slid in I think the ref may have been more lenient but he left his feet and dived in

It was a forwards tackle simples

Bednar was already flying through the air before Agger touched him

It was a dive simple as

Just read Rafa's incensed we didn't get the penalty at the end and feels we were robbed. Be nice if we actually played for the win and put a few attacks together rather than pin all our hopes on penalties all the time. Boring.

I only saw motd but there was one point where he tried to dribble out of his own third and lost the ball. Seemed a little careless.

As for the Fabregas incident, I thought it was outside of the box, therefore a freekick.
