English League Football [6th - 10th Feb 2010] **spoilers**

Killswitch the new DM? :p

Bender dived. Get over it, players do it all the time. He was caught, Unlike "mr Liverpool".

I only saw motd but there was one point where he tried to dribble out of his own third and lost the ball. Seemed a little careless.

As for the Fabregas incident, I thought it was outside of the box, therefore a freekick.

Most Arsenal players are guilty of that though, I saw a couple try it last night, careless is the right word.

I thought he looked just outside the box too but after every commentator and pundit was sure it was inside then I thought I must have been wrong

Aye most players tend to be caught, unlike some who have gotten so skilful at it replays are often needed just for those watching to be sure.

Like all footy fans I'm sick of it, but now I'm just at the stage where it's "can't beat 'em join 'em". We need somebody to get those types of "clever" free kicks/penalties etc. and for a while I've hoped that we'd have a player with that in his locker. It's another sort of way that we're competing against those in the top four, for the last couple of years there was Ronaldo at UTD, Drogba is at Chelsea, Gerrard and Torres are at 'Pool. Of course sometimes you don't get decisions your way, but looking at that list of players I'm sure they've gained far more points for their sides than been denied.

It may also benefit us in another way, it will stop the deliberate "roughing up" of Arsenal players if the opposition know that irrespective of size, they have to get a tackle spot on.

Diving has always happened, it's not just appeared over the last few seasons.

The answer isn't to join them, as it will just increase the problem. Refs try and do their best to clamp down on it.

The lack of media coverage for English players who dive is just awful imo, hound Gerrard in the papers for his hypocritical stance on diving.

Cesc handled but it was outside the box, free kick just on the edge would have been the correct decision.

Bender was slightly touched, but he went down really easily. It would have been a harsh pen.

Although seeing as though Bender was booked and a free kick awarded to Liverpool, Gerrard should have been booked when he tried to win the freekick (that eventually led to the "foul" on Kuyt) as that was by far a worse dive.

Thought Webb had a shocker for both sides tbh.

Didn't the replay show he was standing on the line? On the line's in the box so it should have been a pen.

Not a surprise Webb missed it, he managed to miss as clear a pen as you're likely to see (despite having a great position) in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

But was it a penalty? Does it not have to be inside the box for it to be a penalty kick? This is one of those hazy areas of football that can be interpreted differently by referees.

It was a bloody stupid thing of Fabregas to do in the first place, could have cost Arsenal dearly for that.

About time some of those little decisions started going Arsenal's way. Starts to make up for that random Babel penalty in the CL a few years ago

On the line counts as being inside the box. So if he was standing on the line, as it appears he was, then it's a penalty.

And Jakeke; you can complain about the Hleb penalty not being given (and I'll just point out that Flamini should have been sent off earlier in the game:p) but that was a foul on Babel; Fabregas clearly pulls his arm and Toure jumps on his back.

It works both ways Baz, say Carragher took down Fabregas on the line, Liverpool fans would be saying it was a freekick as it wasn't inside the penalty area. It's one of those things that is interpreted differently by everyone.

Spot on and even the neutrals will side with "it wasn't a penalty" 'cos no one likes Liverpool :p

We're talking about Premier League referees who actually make these decisions during a match, they don't know the rules. :p

Are you saying it's still a penalty even on the very outer part of the line? :p

There are no sides here though. It's either a penalty or it's not.

Haven't seen the replays yet so not 100% sure but my first reaction was that it was on the line.

Andy Gray said so, so yes :p

You and Andy have a love hate thing going on. If he agrees with you he's right and a football expert, and he's a muppet who knows nothing about Liverpool or football if he says something you don't agree with. :D
