English League Football ** spoilers ** [11th - 15th September 2010]

As usual I (and most other humans no doubt :) ) disagree with Drunkenmaster.

IMO, virtually every team, including the "big" ones, in the premier league would take Reina. He's made 2 or 3 slip ups in the last 12 months, but then again so does every single keeper in the world. So does every player in the world in fact, its just that when a keeper does it , the effects are much more noticeable.

Even with those 2 or 3 slip ups, the pro's of Reina FAR FAR outweigh the few slips he has made.

I would wager that every manager in the league would jump at the chance to sign Reina.

For once I agree, somewhat, with drunkenmaster

On current form, I think the only player from Liverpool's team that would get in the United or Chelsea line-ups would be Gerrard. As a United fan I'm obviously pretty anti 'Pool but I'm happy to admit when they are playing well and when they have a good team. Currently though, they're team is playing poorly and the actual starting XI is nowhere near what it used to be. I honestly don't think a single Liverpool defender would get in any of the top 5 or 6 teams, and only Gerrard in midfield and an on-form Torres would get in.

The game at OT next week could be pretty interesting. United's defending so far this season hasn't been great, so it could be an opportunity for Gerrard, Torres and Cole (he's back next week isn't he?) to put Liverpool's season back on track. On the other hand, when attacking United are playing well and I can see Reina being busy.

Agger improves our defence immeasurably so it's baffling to firstly see him stuck at left back and then dropped altogether.

Having said that, Roy's got the defence playing far deeper with Poulsen and Lucas to protect them rather than Mascherano and Lucas so it's not really surprising to see them take such a battering, most defences would.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but have just seen Robinson's tackle on Diaby, didn't get a clear view of it at all yesterday - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnXFILtV-sk that was much more dangerous than Cahill's and the ref .. played on. Seriously awful ref yesterday. Also, I hoped Coyle would remove the dodgy tackles from Bolton but there were more than a few shockers yesterday.

Birmingham should have taken one of those chances today, I got the feeling Liverpool were there for the taking.

Also why does Cyrill Regis have no eyebrows?

Another other Arsenal fans see what Vieira did for City and get a bit nostalgic?

Also what were the crowd chanting at the marriage proposal shown at the end?

One of his long loloping runs? Yup :( I think it was more just the pass through which I miss, nobody seems to do them like that any more.

So you're saying that an on form Reina wouldn't get into the top 5 or 6 teams?

I didn't mention Reina, I said the Liverpool defence wouldn't get into the top 5 or 6. As a United fan, I'd rather have VDS in goal than Reina, at least for the time being anyway. Yes VDS is old so Reina would be a better long term option but he is currently too prone to blunders, the mistake for Spain against Argentina was just comical. I think Chelsea fans would feel the same way about Cech too. Reina would definitely walk into the Arsenal and Spurs teams though.

VDS and Cech over Reina? :o

I'm a Liverpool fan but I'm sure (and a lot of members on here have confirmed it) that even the majority of Mancs and Chelsea fans would take Reina over Cech and certainly VDS.

He slipped over vs Argentina and had the mistake vs Arsenal but that's just about all he's done wrong in the past few seasons. His consistency has been incredible and he's won Liverpool far more points than he's cost us since signing.

I'm quite surprised Reina is being labeled a blunderous goalkeeper because of one very unlucky mistake vs Arsenal and because he slipped over in a friendly (and nearly recovered).

I would certainly take him over VDS.

I cant believe a great player has got a bad name so easily, its stupid.

That's the flak for being a keeper I suppose. It's utter garbage, Reina's a very well taught keeper he's just going through a bit of a patch atm.

As usual for Liverpool their crap comes at the beginning of a season. Looking at yesterday's match versus Bolton, lady luck still won't shine on us at the business end of the season.

You don't know what you're doing.

Oh dear. To be fair though, unless the fair dame is a footy fan herself, it is a bit harsh proposing to her there and then.

he's just going through a bit of a patch atm.

It's not even that; he's not playing poorly, he's just had 2 unlucky situations in a couple of weeks.

He slipped over vs Argentina which could have happened to anybody and the mistake vs Arsenal was incredibly unfortunate; he spilt a ball while looking into the sun and under a challenge, which more often than not the officials would have given a foul for (not saying Chamakh done much wrong but keepers are usually given far more protection) and then when the ball came back off the post, he instinctively tried to grap it and knocked it in.

People forget he made a world class save minutes earlier from Rosicky and 2 more today.

obviously I am biased, but I would very much take reina over cech or vds. He is younger, got longer left and imo is better than both. He has made what, 2 mistakes this season and I think people are overemphasising those 2 mistakes. My surprise was that you said that only Gerrard and an on form Torres would go into a top 5 or 6 team (you said "and only.... would get in") , which I found odd, I also note that you mention an on form Torres, but don't give Reina the same benefit of allowing the on form part

players you would like from other EPL teams eh? i dont have a team as such but ill go with chelsea as i like them the most.

Liverpool - Reina, Gerrard, Torres (the backbone of liverpool, would have taken mascherano too but he's gone and he would have been straight into the first team, the other 3 would have to fight for a place though as Chelsea have a great team already, maybe use torres over anelka and sub anelka on, use reina and cech in rotation)

City - Tevez, A Johnson (2 stunning players, both would be used in rotation and johnson would maybe need to fight for his place more than tevez would)

United - Evra, Vidic, Fletcher (vidic would walk straight in, evra would have to fight it out with ashley cole and be used in rotation, id bench mikel and use fletcher straight away)

Villa - Young (would need to fight for his place)

think thats it, although chelsea dont really need to imrpove their first team by much, they just need to get shot of Mikel and get a couple of decent defenders in for backup and a decent backup keeper. going forward they are too strong for most, its at the back where their weakness lies.

So where do Liverpool go from here? It seems they've got a manager who is happy with mediocrity (for the moment) and players who just aren't performing. I didn't see the Birmingham match but regardless of their home record, Liverpool are a team who should be looking to win every single game that they play, Roy talked as if he was happy with the draw and couldn't really see Liverpool winning anyway. As one fan said a bit further up in the thread, that is not the kind of thing you want to hear your manager saying, especially as he has everything to prove. I don't think his achievement with Fulham should count for anything now. It's a new job and a new challenge, this isn't Fulham and it isn't the Europa League, he needs to start doing better. Is he serious that the best player he could bring in was Konchesky?
