English League Football ** spoilers ** [16th - 19th October 2010]

To be fair, when he said he was happy with the current United side and didn't need any further signings, we knew it was going to be quite bad news this season :(

Then again, it would be better if he played a consistent starting 11.

It's either that:

a) Fergie is starting to lose it
b) He had to 'tow the party line' because he didn't have any more money to spend on new players
c) A combination of the above.

I agree with you though, we were in trouble as soon as he said that. I can't see us getting anything other than the Carling Cup or FA Cup this season!

Shearer is such a tit. In what world was:

a) Gallas not active

I couldn't understand his stance on it either, Gallas stuck his leg out within a whisker of deflecting the ball, that alone is enough to give Schwarzer doubts about which direction the ball was ultimately heading.

The referee was trying to be too clever for his own good, if Gallas hadn't made any attempt to get the ball I could understand the decision somewhat.

The most confusing thing about Sprus's 2nd goal was that once the ref saw the lino's flag he initially ruled it out but then after being persuaded to talk to the lino he the gave the goal again

What could the lino have told him to make him change his mind?

"They ARE a top 4 team..."

Haven't seen MOTD - good to see others agree with what I saw live :(

I really hate having blame on the officials etc, but it's been probably worse in our opening 8 games than it was for us last season in the league so far.

Have to say though, Davies looks brilliant this season, and Salcido/Dembele are looking fantastic signings (worst Salcido has done is slice a hardish volley).

About the Gallas goal, it was probably technically not a goal but I'm glad it was given, he didn't impede the goalkeeper or get a touch, they're the vital things imo, not that he swung his leg out by instinct

Vital 3 points from Arsenal, should have been more than 2 - 1 but the team fought well and looked professional and in control. Fabianski had another encouraging game. Stupid tackle by Wilshere, he needs to stop going for those type of tackles. Thankfully it didn't cause an injury and he's still young, Wenger will get it out of him you'd think.

Have heard two different liverpool teams both from good sources so:

Source 1:
Reina
Carra, Soto, Skrtel, Konchesky
Maxi, Lucas, Meireles, Cole
Gerrard
Torres

And!
Reina
Carra, Soto, Skrtel, Konchesky
Mireles, Poulsen, Gerrard, Cole
Ngog
Torres

Hope the first one is right :(

strange, i could have sworn that earlier in the season when i mentioned this, i was dismissed as being a pessemist, questioned if i was a man utf fan at all etc...

yet if fergie is happy with his squad, then our results are down to him ballsing the matches up with a squad that he is happy with. if he is unhappy with it, then he;s definitely spent badly on players like bebe for instance when we were infact crying out for Van der Vaart or someone similar - who cost a very similar amount and could easily have been purchased imo.

if not for the odd exceptional heroic performance here or there (berbatov vs liverpool for instance) then its feasible that we could have actually been many points and places further down the league.

and with only the likes of obertan, park etc to come into the team its not an exciting time to be a fan right now.

HODGSON`S DERBY PLANS RIPPED UP BY POULSEN WITHDRAWAL
Posted 17/10/10 07:33EmailPrintSave

Roy Hodgson's plans for this afternoon's Merseyside derby have been ripped up following the late withdrawal of Christian Poulsen, according to unconfirmed reports.

It's understood that Poulsen was given permission to withdraw from the squad for the trip to Goodison Park late on Saturday night on 'compassionate grounds'.

Poulsen had been set to line up in the centre of midfield, enabling Hodgson to select Steven Gerrard in attack alongside Fernando Torres.

However, Gerrard is now expected to play in midfield, with David N'Gog partnering Torres instead.

Isnt it strange Nick, that all the aggresive blow hards who were mouthing off at the start of the season about how certain posters cant be fans because the say the squad is weak all over the park, suddenly dissapear when shock horror, the squad has proven to be weak all over the park.

We have no first choice left winger, no first choice right back, no first choice midfield, and a weak mostly unproven strike force when our best player by miles (Rooney) is off form or injured, not including the need a goal keeper and a decent ceneterback.

He has spent badly for three seasons now, he broke up the most potent strike force in europe to solve a problem we didnt have by signing Berbatov and freezing out Tevez, sure Ronaldo would have gone, but we would only of needed to play Nani instead, like some people were saying already.

He has wasted money on two players we didnt need in Berbatov and Valencia, Nigh on £50 million pounds, instead of spending that money on positions that needed improving urgently.
Infact, if you factor in money he has spent on players who will never play, didnt need, in three years its nearly £75 million pounds of crap and waste.

I can't see how people are saying the Chamakh pen shouldn't have been given? :s

The tackle was made AFTER the ball had gone! It had to be a penalty IMO. It was a stupid attempt at a tackle, and it looked like it was out of frustration, rather than any real attempt at winning the ball.

No Poulsen \:D/

Reina
Carragher Soto Skrtel Konchesky
Meireles Lucas
Maxi Gerrard Cole
Torres

Must win game for Liverpool and more importantly must win game for Hodgson if he wants to keep his job. This is one game no Liverpool supporter will excuse if we go on to lose without putting up a fight.

Not too bad a line up for today, although I dont rate Maxi, would rather we played Shelvey today in place of Maxi. Would like to see Shelvey given a run out for a bit in the team.

Good to see Poulsen missing though. Got a sneaky suspicion that Torres will win this for us today.

if not for the occasional howler and lapse of concentration is it feasible we'd be a few places further up the league as well?

yes due to complacency. yet we still manage to sit 3rd in the league 5 points off top. we've had worse starts to a season than this and still come away winning the league.

is that chelsea who drew to villa yesterday? Or Arsenal who also lost to West Brom? or Man City who spent record amounts to drop out of the carling cup at the first opportunity and still only be level on points with us albeit with a game in hand?

Lucky we haven't had any injury problems this season as well isn't it?
