English League Football ** spoilers ** [16th - 19th October 2010]

What Tevez boo hoo I'm gonna quit football, there's too much pressure on me, the team rely on me too much.

tevez' work rate is second to only rooney, infact, it has surpassed it lately but i don't agree with him wanting to retire early. there's a lot of people who can only dream of being in his position, why would you not want to play every minute you can?

I said I thought Blackpool deserved to win, Manchester City being a superior 'squad' should have battered them, and they failed to do so.

They won purely because of poor refereeing decisions, and were outplayed for 90% of the game. They did not deserve to win, or even draw.

I think you're exaggerating a touch. Bar the Chelsea game I don't think anyone will 'batter' Blackpool this season now. Not if they keep up their current will and don't flake half way through anyway. They're only 4 points behind you remember.

As I said before, you don't score 3 goals, hit the bar and more on target and not at least deserve a draw. It's sounding a classic case of "well if this decision went this way it would have been different". Which if you're talking about a disallowed goal in the 94th minute would be hard to dispute, but is anything but concrete when talking about something mid game. We might have gone 2-0 down, put pedal to the metal and came back to win 2-3, none of us know.

Blackpool owned the first 70 minutes of the game and didn't get a single chance on target. Why do they deserve to win with all that possession and not a single goal? Ask an Arsenal fan, it's not all about possession. End of the day it's the score going into the books.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the performance. We should have ran the game and won. We didn't do the former, clearly. But that win was NOT 'purely' down to referee decisions.

ADrianr, you know Tevez's first goal was CLEARLY offside, and the second was, by many thought to be a foul right before the goal, which also took a stonking huge deflection which changed it from a fairly easy right at the keeper shot to in the corner in the opposite side of the goal and unsaveable. IE the first two goals were incredibly lucky, one should never in a million years have stood, the other, maybe, maybe not. Which means at best City scored 2 goals in that game, if it was a foul, 1 goal.

Why on earth would Rooney not be sold IF he wants out and won't sign a new contract. Ignoring the fact he's playing like utter crap, is an utter waste of space and if he goes on to play all season incredibly badly he'll be worth less. But value goes down exponentially, if someones on a 1 year deal they aren't worth half as much as someone on a 2 year deal, or 1/3 of someone on a 3 year deal. People are willing to wait a year if a players unhappy and pay nothing. They'd get significantly more for him in Jan, than in over 18 months time from now.

Of course, the story could be utter rubbish.

Chelsea 4-0 Blackpool

Arsenal 6-0 Blackpool

:p

The thing that concerns me if Roy does stay, is how money will be spent by him in the January transfer window if he is there then.

We could have someone bringing in mediocre players, for him to then leave, and a new manager (who I have no idea who should come in BTW) come in and have build the squad he wants.

If we don't make every effort to keep Rooney then Ferguson needs to go. Too many times Fergie has let his ego get in the way and cost us good players. Fair enough it's never really cost us too much in terms of success on the field, but this time I really don't think we can afford to let him go.

He's by far our best player, and we wouldn't see a penny of the money we got from him, and even if we did. A replacement would be impossible

Holloway's comments will again raise the question about whether technology should be used to allow officials to review crucial decisions.

World governing body Fifa came under pressure to reconsider the issue when the referee failed to award England's Frank Lampard a goal in the World Cup match against Germany in the summer, even though replays showed the ball had clearly bounced behind the goalline.

Ugh. Sure they did Beeb. Had nothing to do with Tevez's goal against the Mexicans, right.

Agreed to be honest. People will always slate someone having a bad time, but the fact is that on form, there a few players better than Rooney. His pace, power, work rate and finishing are a force to be reckoned with.

Considering the money probably wouldn't be re-invested, and we can't play Berbatov by himself, it would be Berbatov + Owen/Hernandez/Macheda...

Can any of them do what Rooney can? No.

if not for the occasional howler and lapse of concentration is it feasible we'd be a few places further up the league as well?

i give u this. its true.

the fact is that at least we have been scoring a few goals. when your UTD you'd expect 2-3 goals scored to equal a win guaranteed in 90% of matches.

but having said that, you take away 1-2 key played and the rest of our team looks mighty average.

but like atbx said, i mean, Teveth, Rooney and Ronaldo could have been the ultimate dreamteam, replace ronaldo with nani and you still have a great attacking trio. enough to go toe to toe with the best in the world.

Something at Utd needs to happen fast - and its not just one area

Defence (who have been a class apart from nearly everyone else for the last two seasons) are fallling apart, and struggle to keep a clean sheet - and even when they do its more from luck (and bad shooting) than judgement. Ok VDS made a mistake but considering what he has done in the past, that slip (while crucial) can be forgiven. If it keeps on happening, then thats a different story

Midfield - little creativity and drive, relying too much on the old faces - who just cant hack it week in /week out (and no matter where it is on the field, stability in the 1st XI is crucial, not whole sale changes every EPL match), and if we are relying on Nani to score a lot of goals we have no hope for the season. He would be a great super-sub, but Utd should be after better quality than him (even if we cant afford it)

Attack - Hernandez will be fabulous, but it would be wrong to put too much pressure on him straight away. I wish Berba was more reliable, as he really should be, but I didnt really expect this season to be any different to the last two. I thought Rooney would have been out of his self-dug hole by now, but something is going to give - and I dont think it will be SAF anytime soon.
(I think its obvious why I left Rooney out at this point - with the HUGE ? hanging over his head)

A complete rejuvination project is required ASAP - some really promising young players (Rafael & Fabio, Cleverly, Smalling, Corry & Jonny Evans,Hernandez, Macheda) and some quality experienced players (Vidic, Evra, Valencia) but we need to get in some really top quality players, otherwise Utd will be struggling to qualify for CL places at this rate (look how bad we are when we lose one decent winger to a season long injury - its not just that but its a good indicator imo)

But the BIGGEST most annoying thing about UTD - and its been present for years apart from the odd blip - is that the team always seems to go all out for two goals or at a pinch three, and then settle and drop a gear or two, and then its impossible to find the higher gear again when a goal (or two) is conceeded). No matter the Utd personell on the pitch this happens time and time again. Utd (and any team) should play to their full potential for 90 minutes + not give up after 30!!

Watched a lot of the game again and just want to say (besides the last minute) Wilshere is absolutely immense for 18. Haven't seen an 18 year old this impressive since Fabregas. Stunning performance, running Premiership games at 18 with ease is unheard of. What a thoroughly exciting prospect. His assist was immense too. What a player

The complete wrong thing to do. It's the way Fergie has managed to keep some of the biggest stars in the business in line. Discipline, the knowledge that they are not bigger than the club, that he will replace you.

All through he's united career he hasn't let players get the better of him. Sharp, Ince, Stam, Beckham, Ronaldo etc. I doubt he's about to start now with Rooney.

Rooney won't let himself be protected from Rooney. He fell out with Moyes and went on a campaign of lies against him when Moyes had to chase him away from McDonalds and hanging around street corners with his mates.

He certainly won't be able to take the hardline Fergie is giving him. If he leaves united for what he sees as an easier life he will end up like Ronaldhino. Well paid and over weight.

It takes a Fergie or Moyes to keep control of someone like Rooney to protect him from himself.

Lets face it he won't go to spain, if he goes anywhere it will be in this country.

Real Madrid in "Actually, we're ok for strikers, thanks" shocker!

You have a real bee in your bonnet about Nani, I really don't understand it. He has scored 3 goals and got 7 assists in the 8 games so far this season. If he keeps getting the game time he'll only improve. Even when Ferguson was only giving him a few games here and there over the two seasons he was scoring and assisting which is more than I can say for the likes of Carrick and Anderson.

You mean at the moment, score, yup Owen seems to be doing better than Rooney in scoring at the moment.

People constantly talk crap about Rooney. Last year he scored a lot, his workrate wasn't 1/10th of the previous year because of the role he played. You can play him as a hard working powerful running midfielder, or a striker who never gets in the box and constantly chases the ball, or a striker who scores a lot but stays up top.

Games where he's done all that together are few and far between. He can be a great player, but last year was a year where by and large in MANY games he was uninvolved for 80minutes and then tapped in a goal. Year before he was heavily involved for 80 minutes but wasn't a particularly reliable scorer. Neithers better or worse, an actual striker doesn't and shouldn't get involved in midfield, they should be making runs to be played in, and thats what he did last year. Its very boring seeing people suggest he's got it all, he doesn't. His passing isn't very good, playing in other players isn't his strong suit. Drogba's assist making, interplay, passing, holding up the ball and defending are all dramatically better than Rooney's.

This year, he's uninvolved and isn't scoring, not really different to last year without the goals. It started way before the world cup.

Likewise I think its odd to say he wouldn't go to spain and would stay in the league. Right now I'd assume one of his main motivations for a new club is to get away from the English press, plus, unlike at Everton, theres pretty much no where left to go except down, unless he joins a new league.

If he gets his form back, he's a very good player, amongst the best few in the world, is laughable. He's no where near the best striker in the world, let alone best players. Eto'o/Villa/Drogba are miles ahead of Rooney as strikers.
