English League Football ** spoilers ** [2nd - 3rd October 2010]

"Nigel should not change his game, we need him as he is. But maybe he should occasionally go into a tackle slightly differently" Holland captain Mark van Bommel gives Nigel de Jong some helpful advice on how to maim someone without breaking their legs.
God bless The Fiver <3.

In what way is Wenger a "French Gary Glitter"?

Following that statement with "time to get a clue" just makes you look like an idiot.

He's a pedophile, you didn't know?

The football forum is for making stuff up or reading everything you read in pieces by lazy journalists or talksport. :)

Making what up? You know he meant that both players have got tackles seriously wrong in the past with horrific outcomes, and that both are seen as 'tough tackling' players. Both players have broken legs on more than one occasion. It's hardly made up is it??

Find me a Greenlizard post where he doesn't try and fit in a jab at Shawcross. There are some, but they're as rare as rocking horse ****.

Perhaps he's just upset that the Arsenal defence doesn't have such a figure to stop West Brazilwich Albion romping all over them.

Sorry, but that's a horrific tackle and we see more bad tackles from De Jong than good ones, he has no consideration for his opponents safety at all.

So horrific that not only did the ref not even give a yellow at the time, but the FA have said no further action will be taken what so ever? It really wasn't that bad, just very, very unlucky. If Ben Arfas leg had been at the opposite angle it would have just slid out and no-one would have given a monkeys.

Top player?

A 'bit' dirty?

Haha :p
Yeh a top player....one of the most consistent in the prem atm (And dont give 'What at tackling') Name one utd player who has been better in midfield? imo the only midfielder thats been better in the prem is Essien.
Yeh a bit, that tackle wasnt reckless at all. Ben Arfa simply got caught and fell over.

You seem to be under the impression that I am saying the entire Man Utd team is awesome? Its not, its pretty bad to be honest and needs improving.

Doesn't change the fact he's a dirty player and I dont consider him to be particularly good either.

Not for me to say, sounds like he's more bothered about the alarming rate of serious injuries happening to talented players while the culprits are out of the game for 3 games, maximum. The system is wrong and is one reason as to why we're seeing more of these tackles, there's no deterrent. You have to admit that seeing the Henry tackle and a leg broken in the same weekend is a little distressing, do these tackles need to be made so regularly? I say no, I also think that it's becoming a case of the usual suspects once too often, players like Henry and De Jong need to be punished or at least told to calm down by somebody of considerable authority. It's nice to see a national coach taking a public stance for once

I am not but and its nice to hear that from a utd fan for once :),
No it doesnt but his top tackles:bad ratios is very good tbh and whys that? Can pass, cant shoot, can tackle well most of the time and is good at headers considering his size.

In the same way Arsene Wenger is a french Gary Glitter.

Time to get a clue now 'lizard, its embarrasing for you.

Both are 'tough tacklers' (well they don't always, but that's another matter), who have seriously fouled their opponents over the years and often put them out for extended periods of time. In that sense, yes, De Jong is like Ryan Shawcross. Every time incidents like this happen it's a big ****ing clue as to what they're like. Wasn't it recently against W. Ham where Shawcross, off the ball, deliberately elbowed somebody in the face?

I struggle to see how you don't get the comparison...

...though perhaps the real issue is you can't hack criticism of your 'hero' can you now? ;)

The same FA that did nothing when Mascherano practically assaulted Ferreira last season? Doesn't mean jack.

I know it's late but I honestly can't think of what you're taking about

edit: Just had a quick check and Ferreira didn't even play in either Liverpool - Chelsea game, nor is there any mention of Masch doing anything to any other Chelsea player.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Bosingwa's kung fu kick on Benayoun from 2 seasons back?

He didn't even get near the ball for a start, watch the video and it wasn't even De Jong that knocked the ball away with his front foot, it was after Ben Arfa was going down. It wasn't a good tackle whatsoever and just because the FA aren't doing anything about it doesn't make it less severe. The fact that the national coach has dropped De Jong just shows that a couple of Arsenal fans are not the only ones who think he's a dirty *******. He should have been fined serious money by now for some of the tackles he's produced in the past twelve months alone. A karate kick on Alonso and two broken legs dished out between Ben Arfa and Holden. Those aren't just "very, very unlucky" they are products of De Jong's terrible mentality.

Ah that's the one, I could only vaguely remember it. I knew it involved a Portuguese right back :p

Perhaps the real issue is you can't make a valid point to back up your hatred towards a single player? One 50/50 tackle that ended badly for an Arsenal player and you're still crying real tears every night? Get a grip.

Or is it that you believe everything Arsene says when he totally makes stuff up about Shawcross in games that have nothing to do with him?

But seriously, carry on, it makes for hilarious reading so I won't point it out again. :)

lol, all of them? That's the point. I let most of them slide and sit back and laugh out loud at the general ignorance.

Funnily enough the FA might be looking at punishing the 'talented' De Jong even further for his reckless tackle on Ben Arfa...how can Bizz kid and spunj99 sit there and take the high road when they full well know that their 2 'heroes' are nothing but a pair of thugs is well and truly beyond me....quite hilarious in all honesty.

i sit directly across froma City fan at work. i asked him about de Jong.

he said he was happy that he has a hard man reputation. he wants people to fear him. like the aura that Roy Keane had.

if you go in for a 50/50 your going to come out badly, so dont do it.

Personally i think it is only acceptable whilst this happens to B rate players.

Once Rooney, or Gerrard or Lampard get their legs broken by de Jong, there will be some public backlash.

Exactly right there. It's going to take a sickener on Rooney or Gerrard or somebody for the nation to actually care, until then it's just another 'accident'. Which is awful. De Jong does a two footed scissor tackle and breaks somebody's leg and it's not even a foul. Shocking.

Well, yeah. He should have been punished at the time of the tackle but the ref did nothing and ruined any chance of him getting a ban.

It's ludicrous and completely nonsensical that bans can't be given out retrospectively. It just does not make sense to me one bit. What is the reason against the FA having a quick look at that today, deciding that it was obviously a terrible challenge and just saying, 6 games ban. 15 games next time you do something as bad or worse.
