English League Football ** spoilers ** [2nd - 3rd October 2010]

If you break someones leg, ankle etc you should be given a minimum of 10 match suspension. It's a contact sport but they should have respect for eachother as humans.

The FA will never do anything about it because are useless. De Jong should be banned for 10 matches, Shawcross should be banned for life. He is a **** and a dreadful tackler i.e THUG.

I completely disagree, it's an obvious attempt at an early reducer that he got wrong. Two feet off the ground and a scissor motion, also a totally uncontrolled challenge. There's no way that was an innocent challenge. I've seen worse obviously, but it was still a stupid, reckless and poor challenge which has had massive consequences.

What is the reason against the FA having a quick look at that today, deciding that it was obviously a terrible challenge and just saying, 6 games ban. 15 games next time you do something as bad or worse.

It involves the FA doing their job. Never happen.

And don't get me started on Karl Henry. He should be banned for life. What he did against Joey Barton was down right disgraceful. Ohh and Bobby Zamora.....and Jordi Gomez.

Just because you break someones leg it shouldn't be a suspension, personally I think the broken leg was just unlucky, but with a reputation it's going to look a whole lot worse. IF you were going to go for later consequences, things like Bosingwa on Ferreira for example should be taken note of later. Just handing out suspensions for accidents would be ridiculous.

It is ironic that footballers can be charged with assault for punching each other on the pitch, but a leg break there is nothing that can be done.

thats because using hands in football is illegal for all outfield players but you are meant to kick with your feet.

if the play was stopped and one guy ran over to another and kicked him right up the %$££ do you think one wouldnt try to do the other for assault?

I wouldn't like it but look at the tackles that snapped both of Cisse's legs and tell me banning the defender for 10 games in each case would've been fair.

Yep agree with you but i think this all stems from Wenger and arsenal fans who forgot how dirty arsenal were before the "beautiful football" era. Don't want to sound gay but there's nothing better than a good tackle. If you get the ball then its a fair tackle even if theres a broken leg.

Perhaps the real issue is you can't make a valid point to back up your hatred towards a single player? One 50/50 tackle that ended badly for an Arsenal player and you're still crying real tears every night? Get a grip.

Or is it that you believe everything Arsene says when he totally makes stuff up about Shawcross in games that have nothing to do with him?

But seriously, carry on, it makes for hilarious reading so I won't point it out again. :)

So you agree that the W Brom match really did have nothing to do with anything. Nice comparison with Wenger and a paedo as well. Very ****ing mature.

Hatred for a single player? Bar my true comparison with De Jong you'll find most of my gripes are actually, if you look for it, at the strangely acceptive response by fans and media alike. I've often said 'oh he's not that type of player'(sic) against those who deserve a reputation not being given one. The same goes for Shawcross, as it does De Jong himself and Karl Henry.

I'm not whinging at Shawcross' tackle only, if you again look back, it's all about people defending a guy who frequently gets away with (lightly) or is frequently involved in incidents like that. It is other fans who think Arsenal fans/Wenger are having a go at ONE particular tackle or player - we're not, here are some 'valid points':

Dumping Adebayor off the pitch, breaking Ramsey's leg after being stirred up earlier on in the game, recently elbowing the W Ham player in the face off the ball, two other fouls against sides other than Arsenal which left an opponent maimed, the guy in Belgium mauled on the halfway line who too was left seriously injured etc. etc. That much should have been obvious, but go ahead with the victim complex anyway, ironically enough, it's your own manager and chairmen who's been using that one player and one incident far more than anybody else.

Yeh a top player....one of the most consistent in the prem atm (And dont give 'What at tackling') Name one utd player who has been better in midfield? imo the only midfielder thats been better in the prem is Essien.
Yeh a bit, that tackle wasnt reckless at all. Ben Arfa simply got caught and fell over.

You are actually being serious aren't you?

Shocking tackle, we have seen them before (World Cup & Did he not break someone's leg last season iirc?). He's a dirty player, with limited ability on the ball, he can't press space / tackle well so he fouls people.

He didn't get caught, it was a bad tackle. It should have been a red card. Go read the FIFA rules about tackles, it doesn't matter if the player gets the ball or not (something that Sky and co like to use as an excuse, "he got the ball so it's okay", a bad tackle, is a bad tackle ball or not)

Coupled with the Wolves player, who just isn't good enough and resorts to kicking people. (Not good enough for the premier league)

Tough tackling midfields seems to have replaced "dirty ********" or "hatchet men" recently.

No, they're not thugs, just poor tacklers and not good enough at a high level or a fast paced game.

They're also stupid, as more often then not those tackles don't need to be made.

Also, no you can't just automiatically ban all players that break players legs, Riise should have been banned for kicking a ball hard at Alan Smith?

Leg breaks, sometimes are the results of awful tackles, they are also the result of bad luck (for example, falling badly).

This is where you and the rules of football disagree then.

It does not matter if you get the ball or not, a bad tackle is a bad tackle.

Suggest you go read the rules, 12 iirc.

Read it and yes there is no mention of winning the ball. Its an eye openner really but does explain the different styles of refs and the calls they make when its up to them to consider what is "careless, reckless or using excessive force"

No, I'd say it highlights how lack standards have become with poor tackles.

The tackle on the Newcastle player was horrible, red card, it was "Careless, reckless and used excessive force" you could hear it break on the television, such a bad tackle should have been a red card.

Do I blame the player? no, he's a dirty player.
Do I blame the F.A. for not banning De J for the rest of his natural born life? no.

I just blame a poor standard of refereeing.
