Epic Games Store now open!

The funny part about the above is the £99.99 edition also says "Limited time promotional pricing" so is not even the final price... But I don't think we can really go too hard on Epic over how expensive the game is as I think "deluxe" editions being £100+ somehow seems to have been normalised across most of the industry at this point

I thought a significantly smaller cut meant cheaper games for everyone
Exactly. It’s all marketing.

Max I paid for a game was around £50 and that was for pre-ordering Deus Ex Mankind Divided Digital Deluxe Edition and even that was because I love the franchise and wanted to support it.

£100 is madness and I would not pay that for any game. PC games should be no more than £30 for the base game and £50 for deluxe edition which includes all future dlc in my opinion. This is because it is digital so no packaging and one can sell it on.

From your link:

After you go through several cycles of game developers making decisions, you’re going to see lower prices as developers pass on the savings to customers, realising they can sell more copies if they have a better price,” says Sweeney, speaking with Ars Technica during the Game Developers’ Conference last week. “This sort of economic competition is really healthy for the whole industry and will lead the industry to a better place for all developers and for gamers as well.”

Well we haven't gone through several cycles yet. I think what he's getting at is that developers are taking the money now, hopefully to fund their next title which may then see a reduction vs the previous release.

Economies of scale as well. If you release a niche title you might prefer to take a lump-sum on it from Epic and sell at full price, but next time you make a game you hopefully have more prestige behind you as a developer and more excitement surrounding your next title - which could translate to more sales which means you can sell the game a bit cheaper.

Oh yes they did, multiple times and it was one of their main arguments of why we should move.

That's what they said about Steam, and now years down the line new games are still full price games. "More money for the publisher", "more money for the developer", "mustn't undercut bricks and mortar stores", etc. There's always reasons why the extra money saved by going digital doesn't end up in the customer's pocket.

Surviving Mars is the next free game, I've already got that, its a pretty decent game really. Not a 9/10 game by any means but a good little builder game if thats your style of genre

My Shenmue 3 Kickstarter refund has just come in. Thank you Epic for providing the refund :D

YS won’t be getting a penny from me any time soon after what they pulled with this kickstarter however.

Seems revenue in their main game is crashing, hopefully it means they no longer can afford their aggravating strategy, though likely it'll just mean that Tencent moves in and gobbles up the company completely.

I have Surviving Mars and is a great game tbh. For free is a bargain. Considering the size of the game.
FYI SM is the only game bothered to make a mod :D

Anyone having problems with the recent freebie, Metro 2033 Redu?. After the opening sequence, mine hangs on a black screen.

Trying to login to EGS to get my free copy of Surviving Mars, but getting this error message. It's like something out of an internet meme. EGS, all your base are belong to us.

Blame Fortnite, its okay this morning.

So many people today suffering from Fortnite withdrawal as its down and nobody knows when it will come back. Quite funny really.

A good marketing ploy though I expect it will come back looking completely different with a Halloween flavour.
