Epic Games Store now open!

Steam Security Warning Issues for 72 million Windows 10 Gamers

If you're going to come out with such things make sure Steam isn't guilty as well.

Security issues are never good, we accept there may be issues in all software we used, issues that may take years to be found. Using it to try and troll is rather sad though ;)

Ah okay thanks. I'm fine with the launcher though, even if I do have issues with Epic.
NP! But good to know if there's a game you want to nab and aren't at your PC :p

Talking about security issues, mate had his steam account hacked the other day whilst having 2FA active on his account. Whoever took over his account removed games from his account and got him VAC banned. Games that were removed Steam refused to re-add to his account unless he has proof of purchase for them.

Where did my post say that Steam have never had any security issues happen? Since Steam has fixed the issue reported in that article (according to the article itself) I guess we'll just see how long Epic take to fix their problems - with the speed they've implemented the rest of their roadmap I'm sure it won't be long (I was going to check but I can't seem to find the roadmap anywhere now? Oh yeah now I remember, they removed the roadmap because the glacial pace they were adding features was making them look even more incompetent)

Be honest, I don't think you even looked. The roadmap is still being updated and is the first hit on google when searching for "epic game store roadmap".

Well I stand partially corrected, although I don't really think a Trello board with virtually no timings and extremely broad tags can really count as a roadmap... "We'll get to it at some point in the future" with no committal to any kind of timeline or dates is less of a roadmap and more of checklist. I suppose it means they (and their shills) can claim that things like the shopping cart are "on the roadmap" but does that really mean anything when this is all it is? It's still a lot more than I thought they would have, but doesn't answer my original question (and is clearly setup the way it is for the same reason I stated)

I wouldn't even waste your time responding, obvious troll is obvious ;) Or maybe it's just "angry keyboard warrior syndrome!" :D

Personally, if I hated something so much I would use it but I also wouldn't waste my time arguing over it either ;)

Yea I know. I shouldn't really. But I've a pet hate of people spreading blatent lies and misinformation which other innocent people may take to be the truth. Not specifically to EGS, but anything. I just don't understand it since it just brings out the worst in people - why would anyone want to do that?

Well firstly I'm not trolling, but good attempt to dismiss any points I might have with childish name calling - ironically keyboard warrior-ish in itself, no?

It wastes so little of my time and energy discussing (and "hating") EGS, so thanks for the concern but I think I'm going to be okay

I will give you that (and already did in my previous reply) - I was wrong about them removing all traces of a roadmap and I apologies for perpetuating that without checking. But having said that they clearly did move it all to a Trello board and then changed all timescales and milestones on virtually every issue to the same non-descript "Future Development" tag - in other words removing any committal or notion of when they expect any of those things to be implemented (i.e. the whole point of a roadmap). My original point was that Epic have taken ages to implement things on their (original) roadmap but that we wouldn't be able to tell/track that now anyway; and that is still very much the case. Calling that page a "roadmap" is misinformation just the same

So, in two sentences or less, please answer the following questions:

1. Is the Epic Store now as secure as Steam?

2. Does Epic have similar launcher and updater functionality to Steam?

I ask as I want to play Metro Exodus over the Xmas/NY break this year.

Oh, moving to W10 is well overdue. I hope to get it done this winter once I have all the required files and applications installed onto the Lenovo desktop that’s going to be the business PC.

Can’t take the W7 PC offline before that happens.

So I have built a new PC, moving from Win7 to Win10, physically moving my game drives to the new machine.

With a fresh download of Steam, I pointed Steam to my game locations, all done in one, excellent :D

Uplay, had to point the launcher to each game individually, a bit painful but all games worked apart from one.

Epic launcher, unable to point the launcher to my game that is already downloaded/installed, the function doesn't seem to exist.

Google tells me it is possible with people reporting mixed results - anyone here managed to find a way that works?

Has anyone taken advantage of this support creators thing? Tried to do it today to pick up goose game and satisfactory. Everything worked ok on goose and got the voucher but it won't let me use it on satisfactory...

Ok as an update on this for anyone in the future, after some lengthy and entirely unhelpful communication with support staff the coupon was eventually showing as valid to use on Satisfactory. I'm not sure it was as a result of my emails though.

I had different people respond each time, none of whom understood the problem and essentially gave very simple answers which were shown in the FAQ for the event. I sent screenshots and a detailed list of steps I had taken which all seemed to be ignored in an attempt to close the support ticket.

Not the best experience, though I haven't had to use the support for any of the other game stores / launchers before so nothing to compare it to. The bar has now been set pretty low :p

Last week we got Jotun Northunn Edition or something, next week is Valhalla Edition. What’s that all about? Are they different games?

Epic's 2FA is absolute ****. Despite having had it enabled since the start, I can log into my account from any computer and never once get asked to enter a verification code from Google Authenticator - it just logs me straight into my account.

Watch the game trailers for a few seconds. They're entirely different games!

Ain't got no time for that! (OK, I'll go look.)

EDIT: I see now. One is called Bad North - Jotunn Edition and the other is Jotun - Valhalla Edition. Confusing at first glance to your average Joe-tunn though. :D
