I'm not sure I agree with that at all. Managers are changed so quickly now and managers that fail somewhere often go onto succeed somewhere else. Flick was being spoken of by nobody and suddenly he's turned Barcelona into a side that humiliated the best team in the world. Spain dominated the Euros with a manager most people had never heard of where other far bigger names had failed. Xabi Alonso comes out of nowhere and has the best season by a club ever who has never won anything. Will he maintain that if he goes somewhere else? Who knows. Club structure is so important and the manager feels like less and less the most important part of that.
Even if you believe that the manager has had no impact on your performances and results and that it's entirely down to the players, you're then left with the issue of who brought in so many of those players. Under ETH Utd have spent just shy of £700m and signed over 20 players (albeit some on loan), surely he has some responsibility for the state of Utd's squad and the performances of those players?

Edit: Ignore I'm looking at the wrong season. He overperformed, but not by much. Weirdly I've never heard this same criticism levelled at other players though. Mbappe over performs him by a long way every year but I've never seen anyone say he overperforms.

For me, I was still onboard (just) at the start of the season with ETH
But since then, it's been terrible.
The club are to blame just as much as he is..... Staff, players etc.
Dreadful dreadful signings over his reign - Mount.... Anthony.....Malacia
I would love to ask ETH - everyone is fit - what's your best XI.....??? I don't think he has a clue what that looks like (ignoring opponent for now)
The club have pretty much backed him on any transfers he wanted....1 win in 8 games.... We barely look like scoring at the moment and 9 games in the league and top scorer has 2 goals....
No clear plan, no gameplan during the game in terms of substitutions etc.... Injuries are part of the game, but yet the constant excuses of injured players....
Despite the changes across the top level of the club.... It's in dire need of a total reset....
Rashford is becoming a serious issue in terms of his attitude, lack of interest etc. Casemiro on 400k a week is another one. Eriksen....what are we doing here?
I do look forward to Yoro coming back from injury, hojland can certainly finish if he's supplied with decent balls, Ugarte looks solid. There is some life there.... but someone has to strip it back, get rid of the ego's/salary players and build some kind of starting XI.... Not swapping out 5/6/7 players every game.

I agree ETH is to blame he is the manager after all but I don't think it is solely down to "he doesn't have a clue" like a lot on here think.
Mentality and dressing room is as important as anything else. Fergie would be the first to admit he wasn't a tactical genius but he knew what his strengths were.
That is all but gone from our club now and when I look at Liverpool and City they have that mentality and I think that is what makes the big teams stand out above everyone else and what I see from United is how Liverpool were in the 90's and 00's which is scary because the chances of coming back from it are very difficult.
I think turning the Man Utd ship around is the most difficult job in football, in part due to internal issues (which hopefully INEOS will resolve). It needs a huge character who can absorb the pressure, and also get a clear message to the players in terms of expectations and tactics. There's no quick fix, but Ten Hag proved he wasn't capable of it - he was given more than a fair crack at the job IMO.
Anyway, let's hope Amorim is appointed and that he can succeed where Tan Hag couldn't. I'm hoping we'll find something out later today? I don't think the Sporting compensation payment will be an issue.

That is one thing I can agree on. I do not think ETH had the charisma and standing to get the job done. I liked his stance on Sancho and Ronaldo for example but you need to be able to have that special spark that keeps the players in check which I think he lacked. Unlike say a Fergie or Ancelotti.
Amorim will need this or he will falter quite quickly.

When people say he overperformed, they usually mean vs his usual baseline which lets be honest isn't great. He blows hot and cold. Overperforming your xG isn't that important if your xG is 30 goals per season. When your xG varies between 30 xG and 10xG though...
Of course it is. There has been a complete failing above the players for years. We should in theory have that fixed now but that doesn't mean you are not still working with a massive amount of inertia from historic issues.
Turning around a failing company isn't as simple as parachuting in the right people. You have to change company culture. Replace the problem employees. Find the right management. Improve morale. In football, especially at United with the type of mismanagement you are very much working with the mistakes of the past around your neck.
- Players on overpriced contracts you can't effectively move on
- Players who are underperforming on the pitch but are commercially valuable (the Rashfords of the squad)
- Players who potentially cause you issues as a team but in a dysfunctional team are absolutely vital for goals (Bruno, Garnacho, Rashford ie. players who change games but don't play for the team as much as they should)
- Players who have seen managers come and go
- Players used to the easy life and don't want to change
- Players whose morale is low from a long time of poor results
Its not easy to turn it around especially with the pressure of being a United player. We are still the most talked about club in the world despite being **** on the pitch for over a decade. Other fans would still rather talk about us and our issues than their own club (see certain posters in here).

I don't know, surely it depends? Man City aren't exactly playing Pep's tiki-taka football, they seem to do OK.

Sporting have just released a statement to the Portuguese stock market confirming that Manchester United are willing to pay Amorim's release clause.
Sounds like we're getting there.
Also confirms the release clause is €10m (£8.3m).
