Even if you believe that the manager has had no impact on your performances and results and that it's entirely down to the players, you're then left with the issue of who brought in so many of those players. Under ETH Utd have spent just shy of £700m and signed over 20 players (albeit some on loan), surely he has some responsibility for the state of Utd's squad and the performances of those players?

Man Utd keep on making the same mistakes, whoever the manager is. They keep on overpaying for average players on long contracts.

I'd be surprised if he isn't confirmed.

But, he can't get away with a constant back 3 at Utd surely, we don't have quick/good enough defenders for that sort of system.

"It's a very attacking, intense style of football with a back three. He doesn't change anything - always the same system, formation and patterns of play.

I don't want to be negative because he hasn't arrived yet but what works in Portugal might not always work in England against better teams.

The way he plays is very risky at times. That's okay in Portugal, I'm not sure for the Premier League."

So he's unwilling to change, apparently. High risk. ETH 2.0? Hopefully he at least has some charisma for us, for however long he lasts.

Edit - mind you, is the above acceptable for a mid-table club? :o

It is all very similar.

Take a look at ETH at Ajax. +409 GD over a 4 year period. 73.49% win percentage. Played fantastic football. Got to the semi final of the Champions League and missed out by tiny margins (I would say they actually bottled it against Spurs). Won leagues and cups galore. Rebuilt the Ajax team and won every single group game in his last season in the champions league.

Now Amorim. +300 GD over a 4 year period. 70.48% win percentage. Plays fantastic football. Won League and Cups galore. Hasn't really done it in Europe but this season his team has 7 points in the Champions League. (Joint 3rd in the table). According to current rankings the Portuguese League is the 6th strongest in Europe just behind France.

Not much difference really. In fact ETH CV before taking over United is better than Amorim's as he did it in Europe convincingly twice with a team from a domestic league that is ranked 11th Europe.

Also ETH battered Amorim 5-1 in a Champions League match away and 4-2 home. During his final 21/22 season at Ajax. Not really feeling that confident now!

This is the thing - you can apply this to players too. Brilliant CVs before coming to Old Trafford.

Wow, there’s a lot of glass half empty people in this thread.

The guy isn’t even confirmed and negative comments are already being posted.

We have no idea what he would do and how we would perform. Using historical facts is pointless.

I think it's just 10 years of experience talking. :D

ETH was rightly appointed on a good record at Ajax, and given a fair crack at the job, and effectively bought his own starting XI - but ultimately he did a terrible job. Fluking an FA Cup isn't really anything to get excited about if you're supposed to be a big club. This is why Arsenal and Arteta are commanding respect, despite him winning less than Ten Hag.

So, we move onto the next man and hope he can do better - not really a difficult concept to grasp, is it?

There's no magic curse on the club, we just appointed a manager who wasn't good enough in the end. The other historical issues with dodgy staff like Woodward are actively being resolved.

It's a time for positivity, we were at rock bottom under ETH and the only way is up.

Well, we were at rock bottom with Rangnick before. And we somehow went further down, but I understand the sentiment. Have to try and get the ol' positivity going again as best we can!

It'll be nice to approach games with a bit of excitement and curiousity, that's for sure.

Not difficult no but I am also realistic. You seem to have the belief that Ineos will do a better job than the Glazers. I have yet to see anything they have done that is good. They did literally sweet nothing with Nice in France. They made all that mess in the summer about ETH, backed him and now sacked him 100 odd days later. In hindsight you could have never gone forward with ETH as it undermined his position and the prima donna players at our club would never work for him again.

Please tell me what is actively being resolved by our "new" 25% owners? Even Ashworth himself is nothing but a FA grifter.

I actually feel sorry for Amorim and I hope he does well but all I can see is ruining another up and coming manager.

With Amorim likely being the new manager, what happens with Ruud after his stint as interim? Surely he will want to bring in his own staff. I wouldn't want to see him leave but not sure he would be happy to just be a coach.

I am sure he is ****** off too. He was asked to come back to United and had all these plans. A true model professional and 100 days he is out with his P45 after years of dedication to the club.

I thought they like to stick to their philosophy, the one that got them to where they are?

They have a philosophy but they are usually good at changing it as needs be. No manager plays the same at two clubs. Pep doesn't play the same way he played at Barca. Klopp didn't play the same at Dortmund. You adapt to the league and the players/resources you have available.

There is no need to be dismissive of our achievements. We didn't fluke anything.

The Coventry game was a real sticking point for me. We were brilliant in the final but we needed VAR to get over the line against a Championship side at Wembley. Definitely a bit of a fluke, but that's cup football for you.

I think we're going around in circles a bit here. INEOS are still pretty new at the club so you have to give them a bit of time, surely? You don't think there's an element of promise in the new people running the club? They definitely botched the manager decision and I don't know what happened there really. You're keen to dismiss Ashworth, in post for 3-4 months, as an "FA grifter" but want to sit here defending the utter dross Ten Hag served up with his £600m of signings? I don't get it. I feel like you've about given up on the club and are just angry at everything, which I get, but things will get sorted out one way or another...

Ultimately you think nothing will change until what, the Glazers have finally gone? If only...

You could do this for every cup win. How many times do Real win late? Are all their cup wins flukes then? We beat City and Liverpool on the way to the title, it was fully deserved.

INEOS have had plenty of years at NICE and failed. Everything they have done so far has been poor. Its okay to put your head in the sand and sing kumbaya thinking it will get better but I have always been realistic.

As for utter dross ETH served up our attacking stats put us in 4-6th in the league which was about par for the course when excluding Ars,Liv,City but at the same time we were the worst for converting chances and big chance misses. This season has been on the players either cannot be bothered or too thick to understand what is needed of them or maybe a bit of both.

I struggle to count on 1 hand how many players gave it their all this season.
