Escape from Tarkov

The loot system soon gets tiresome, I even felt sorry for one bloke I killed once - I went into the woods map armed with the cheapest pistol I could buy 2 mags with 16 rounds between them. This guy I killed was fully fitted out, an AR with all the attachments, fully kitted out .308 sniper rifle not to mention all the armour etc, must have took him days looting and selling to buy it all and I took him out with one round to the face from a good distance, I extracted 2 min's later with everything. Silly game.
The loot system in the game is what make it for me & is what make the game great IMO, the guy you killed was probably a high level player if he was risking that sort of gear you can guarantee that he had better sitting in his stash, I've got lots of stories of similar & the feeling of elation when you find something worth while combined with the terror that you now have to get out with it has provided me with some heart pounding moments that no game I can think of has ever managed before, you may think its silly but it sounds to me from your previous comments on the game that you bought into it expecting it to be something it is not and has never been advertised as which is quite silly in itself considering!
It is not a game for everyone & can be a bit frustrating at the moment with bugs still being ironed out & server issues, I'd recommend that anyone interested in it does a bit of reading up before buying.

@Divinious

How does this run in its current state, looks reasonably demanding? I've seen more than one video where gpu usage was at 70% or so at times and yet the CPU wasn't anywhere near maxed - was 50-60fps suggesting optimisation issues maybe?

Is the movement, responsiveness and gunplay better than pubg say as I find that quite poor at times.

Performance is pretty much inline with most alpha/beta software running on the Unity engine (think Rust, etc). There is definitely more optimisation needed, however it does look damn good. The screenshots I posted here are with every setting turned up to the maximum at 3440x1440 resolution and that runs at 55-65fps on a 1080ti depending on whats going on. There are occasional drops caused by various things I won't delve into unless you really want. I usually drop a few settings down to maintain higher framerate.
Movement wise it is far more similar to Arma or Squad rather than PUBG which felt almost arcade like to me. The gunplay is incredible and unparalleled in my opinion, this is one area where the game really shines.

@Drollic, L33 is pretty spot in what he says above, I will add that this is a pretty hardcore shooter you will die & you will lose equipment that has taken a long time to collect so be prepared for that as it can be very frustrating especially if you lose gear because of a bug of which there are still a lot in the current build but the game is not due to release until mid to late 2018 so bugs are to be expected.
All that said its a great game that I've enjoyed so far & if they can pull off all that is planned will only get better IMO.

Most of the maps are quite large (except Factory) but have lots of choke points patrolled by the AI scavs which funnel the players towards the exits, there are limited players on each map plus some player controlled scavs, you can avoid combat if you are playing cautiously but chances are you will stumble into someone at some point plus if you want some good loot you will have to venture to loot spawns which obviously attract others interested in loot also, it is certainly not constant action but when you get in fire fights they can be quite intense.
You should check out some gameplay on Youtube but be aware most streamer have press accounts with lots of cash & fully loaded inventory/stash which you wont get as a new player.

Yes, there was an update with more new weapons/attachments and a complete wipe of all characters. Performance has been improved too but I couldn't tell you how as I never had a problem running it before.

It's worth getting at the base package price in my opinion. I really enjoy it and it's very hard and unforgiving, reminds me a lot of the tension in the original DayZ days along with the losses you faced when losing gear etc.

There are all sorts of quests now to level up the traders so there is far more to do than just PVP.

Pre-ordered today after lot's of looking about. 39 quid which I didn't think was too bad, only bought because I got Destiny 2 free.

Downloading now. Is there any way for some of us to play together with mics etc?

Teamspeak/discord for voice chat.

You can create a group within the game where you'll spawn next to each other on a map but there is currently no VOIP in game.

It's worth playing a bit in offline mode to get the hang of the gun play/maps etc. It can be very unforgiving and you'll rarely come up against a single opponent.

The changes in the recent patch have made the medical system harder too so you can just spam loads of meds when injured. It's now a real consideration what you treat and when.

Guys this game is pounding my ram, using pretty much all of it on the customs map and almost unplayable....

8GB ram some are reporting you should upgrade to 16gb which seems madness

Yes, you can play the game now. A word of advice, I have been seeing people who are getting incredible lag on this game and the only fix I know of is to put it on an SSD. I'm not sure how people without an SSD would fix the issue though.
