Escape from Tarkov

Don't really want to play £35 quid for a months worth of beta access then nothing till release and how longs that piece of string.
The discussions in the beta forum suggest the various beta stages will run continuously until release.
The prices on the site do not include VAT and payment handler fees (which vary). For example paying via paypal at the moment would work out to around £45 for the standard edition.

Looks interesting, but I'd rather wait for a completed product before spending that much. I'll be keeping an eye on it though.

I brought it this afternoon after watching a few streams. It really does have a intense feeling about it when you pickup some good gear and you need to escape. Killing the AI's seem ok to me, although some have been a right pain in the butt. I struggle to find the exits atm. I assume they don't move around the maps so i will eventually know the maps.

Ah so you caved :-)
Is there plenty to do? Do you see many human players and did you get your key straight away. Still don't know whether to or not :-(

I've waited to play a few days before posting my thoughts.

I bought the base package the day the Beta came out and was let in on the last wave (as expected) August 5th.

Likes:
Atmosphere - The world, lighting and sounds are all really well done on what is available so far (4 maps of varying size) Dust hanging in the air, debris when you breach a door. You'll cringe every time you walk over a wooden fence panel or metal sheet and make more sound!
Performance - runs in 21:9 no sweat all maxed out and although there is no AA settings right now it still looks good (IMO)
Weapon modding - Simply brilliant. Want to load your last 5 rounds in the AK mag as tracers, no problem. Want to run your AK without a dust cover? No problem.
Difficulty - It's VERY hard. A good player will wreck you and the AI need no mention at the minute!!! Shotguns will obliterate someone (as I believe they should at CQB) but get caught reloading at the wrong time and a pistol/hatchet will end your raid early.
Looting - I really like that you have to physically search pockets/clothing on a dead player, keeps the heart racing which you scavenge.

Dislikes:
Difficulty - It's VERY hard! This can be frustrating when you get on a few bad raids and just leave a corpse behind. Best advice here is be brave and don't try and hoard your gear, use it and you'll likely survive better.
Scav loot - Once per hour you can play as a Scav and if you survive/extract then you get to keep whatever loot you had. This is a good way to get an AK/shotgun &vest/backpack etc quickly but it's not immediately clear at the end of the raid all the things you want to keep have to go into your stash or they'll be lost. I found this out the hard way with a nice AK74 :(
Stash - I bought the standard edition and the stash is a little small, probably deliberately so as the packages above mine offer a larger stash...

Overall, I can see there is a good game here, although I do agree that Beta is optimistic, it feels more like Alpha to me. That said what is here now is definitely enjoyable, and very playable. Gun play is good too and I find the whole experience very immersive. It's a full priced game just for access now, so if you can swallow that and don't mind waiting an unknown amount of time for the full release then I say go for it. I'm glad I have.

Nice review, i got standard edition also, and yes stash/storage slots seem small, but cant we build that up in game some how overtime ?

This is impossible just played for 5 hours straight, lost all my starting loot, spent about 100k restocking and lost all of that as well not one successful extraction. Joke game.
You can reset your 'profile' from the website, setting you back to square one with your starting gear again. You can do this once every two weeks.
You're right through it is hard, really hard. I like to think I'm fairly decent at it but some evenings can just seem to be a constant loss of kit with no extracts.

If you (or anyone) want to team up for some runs I'd be up for that :)

I tend to agree, would get a refund instantly if I could.

There is literally nothing to do in the game either unless you enjoy walking around empty maps and shooting cheap glitchy AI.

I feel like the game has sold purely of its level of detail in certain areas rather than its gameplay. It has some very nice attention to detail with weapon customisation etc but overall the game is a soulless experience with very little to actually do.

Anyone who initially paid £120 to get into the alpha got mugged off good and proper.

It's not hard like PUBG or battlefield you put the hours in you get better, it's a broken kind of hard, AI one shot you to the head you don't even get as far as ADS'ing never mind pulling the trigger.
I paid via Paypal and have opened a dispute for refund, I'll let you know what happens - no way worth £44.

Anyone who blindingly hands over money to a bunch of Russians deserves everything they get (or don't get). I've said it from day one, there's no way I'm paying that sort of a money for game that will most likely never be finished and, upon it's full release, will just turn into a massive money grab and then left to stagnate.

I bought this when the hype was big and since I got my key I after say am very disappointed with it.
The game is wasted fighting AI more than PVP. It's a shame because the core gameplay is excellent.
Am hoping in the future they is proper PVP game modes.

Yeah i did cave in. Shame you are not enjoying it. I wouldn't say plenty to do as it's not really a quest type game, unless you class collecting the gear or items to sell, things to do. I am actually really enjoying it but boy ,when I'm looking for an extraction point to only be shot by AI sucks balls. The tinkering with my stash is keeping me in a positive state of mind until I lose it all. It does need more PVP and it's on the track to be great.

It looks good but i'm thankful to a lot of you pointing out the problems you have, you have saved me a bit of cash.

This looks like something i'll keep an eye on, I love the look of the world but a game where you can undo your entire evenings work due to john wick level AI is just ridiculous.

There is a lot of cynicism regarding this game which I understand as a lot of Russian projects have turned out to be cons, but the devs here seem to be making progress inline with promises made, the AI is still being tweaked and desync issues are still a problem but I'm enjoying the game despite these problems (Alpha/Beta) testing problems to be expected).
I've followed the game since it was first announced I've done my homework on it, as it were & I took an informed risk in buying into the Alpha when the half-price sale was on, I've enjoyed my time in both Alpha & the beta (so far) much more than any of the current AAA titles I've played in the past couple of years but I do think its going to be a Marmite game you'll either love it or hate it! So do your homework before making a decision (as you always should) because I've seen a lot of comments from people who really seem to have expected something that this game was never intended to be or advertised as being.
