Hadn't seen that one before, the UI looks really good... hmm might try it out later, thanks! :)
Still stoked with powerAMP beta, if anyone has loads of flacs download it ASAP. With its excellent equalizer it totally transforms the audio quality on my desire, can't wait until it hits the market. (Makes me wish spotify had the high quality option available and a decent equalizer :()

Agreed. Just replaced winamp with poweramp and not looked back. 4x1 widget , eq, sexy interface. Well impressed.

Problem with poweramp is that when browsing artist, it list there songs in alphabetical order, instead of by albums like the norm.

It also not the easiest to navigate through, although that might just be because i gave up after a few tries.

Seems to use a lot more cpu than the standard player too.

Hopefully the finished app will sort these little issues out because the rest of the player is great.

aye its not perfect - the navigation thing you mentioned is a bit weird, but the increase in cpu usage is kind of expected given the EQ. cpu usage decreases when turned off

me too however I can't find where to fiddle with dolby mobile and srs surround settings? Lame if these can't be changed as it's a highpoint of the phone

Found a great alarm clock called Alarm Clock Plus V2 which supports auto snooze and a host of other settings

Barrage of questions to follow, apologies in advance...

1: I'm new to android and still not sure what rooting means, is it just admin rights over the phone?
Someone in the DHD thread mentioned using VISIONary and then adblock to disable ads, is that a permanent ad disable procedure or will it need to be done everyday? I installed an ad sponsored app, will it only show ads within this app or now within any app if not ad sponsored? Just feel I now have ads showing on all apps and it's annoying :( Although if it's just because they are all ad sponsored then that's explainable

You can flash a adblock zip in recovery however I think you need to be rooted. Could be wrong.

2: Is there a free app to remotely control a pc via http? Similar to what I think LogmeIn Ignition does?

Tried gmote?

3: Is there an app that schedules profiles? ie during work hours go to silent profile, after work switch to normal sound?

locale. highly customizable.

Also there doesn't appear to be a way to use custom notification sounds on the desire hd :(

Can't help sorry.
4: I'm not sure how to use Android, I find I keep opening programs and then go back to home screen and the programs continue to run in the background, surely this is using battery? Is there an app to switch between open apps?

If you hold the home key it shows you recent apps.

I'm using advanced task killer to kill them off when not in use but switching between open apps would be useful

There's no need to use a task killer as android shuts down apps when it needs too, it's actually supposed to do more harm then good when you kill apps.

No doubt more questions and requests as I come across them

Btw the fast installer app for appbrain is fantastic

Indeed

Instead of Locale, look at Tasker. Not used it but seems to new the daddy of Android automation. And has a big list of things the devs have in the pipeline

Yeah I was using that before but I had to hard reset my phone as something was screwing with apps and causing a load of errors. I had barely anything else installed so, although I may be wrong, I'm assuming it was that. Also ShootMe never worked even when rooted - I'd shake/cover sensor/whatever else, and nothing would happen .

Have been trying Poweramp for the last 24 hours. Got great potential and its obviously still in beta, but for me the final version needs:

  • Lock screen album art and track details, not just the media transport
  • 4x4 widget with album art
  • Ability to save EQ presets
  • Ability to specify music folders (at the moment it adds all of my BeyondPod podcasts to the library, can't see any way to stop this)
  • Automatically download album art

Other than that, I'm pretty impressed.

whats a good task manager and media player? I have systempanellite task manager and rockplayer respectively queued if people confirm they are good?

when I use the built in media player (called videos) and stream from tversity, the video plays for 10 seconds and then quits back to the list of videos, im assuming its the player as the video did start ok with sound

I'm going to look at tasker and uninstall advanced task killer as someone said it's not needed and I learnt that holding in home button shows recent tasks.

OH very important, got my DHD Monday and already netcounter shows me as having downloaded 550meg via wifi  what could that be from? I'm sure I haven't done it intentionally other than auto sync perhaps? I'm presuming a good task manager will show me the culprit?

Is VISIONary safe to use? me = noob at this

This is like air mouse, you control your PC over WiFi, not over HTTP (Like RDP or VNC), which I think is what he wants

yip :) seems logmein ignition will do this - not sure of it's cost but probably overpriced

On the phone itself I can log into my logmein account and try remote onto my pc but it freezes at the pc login screen :(

EDIT: will give Wyse PocketCloud Free RDP/VNC a go

If you want to control your PC with your mobile, unified remote I think is the best for it, was using gmote before but I am now using this, so much better IMO:

EDIT:

This is done over wifi as well

Thanks but I was looking for remote desktop app that I can control my pc when I'm not at home. Currently I can log onto my router and wake my pc up but want to then connect to my pc via http using my mobile rather than use it as a remote to control software on the pc
