Anyone able to help me out with an app ??

I am looking for an app that means I can set the phone to mute and no vibrate for a certain time window each night BUT still allow a selection of numbers to ring the phone or sound the phone if they text me.

Looked at Timeriffic which is ideal for the timing aspect but it wont allow a "whitelist" of numbers which will override the mute.


I beleive Locale does this (can anyone confirm ?) but I dont need the amount of options that comes with and I am hoping to get a free app that does this ??

Try an app called 'Bedside' I bought it yesterday ~£2 and it's been brilliant. Allows a whitelist of contacts for texts and calls, should be just what you're looking for

What is a new launcher and how do install it? is it easy to get back the HTC launcher?

A Launcher is the application tray and homescreen + widget setup that the phone is set up with. uncustomised phones come with the default Android launcher (Nexus One and the HTC Magic for example) while other phones like the Hero and Desire come with HTC's customised launcher called SenseUI.

You can install and use any Launcher you wish as long as it's compatible with your Android version. Just install a new launcher and press the Home button, Android will ask what to do, use SenseUI or the new Launcher and you can default the home button to either.

If you default to the new one just go Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and click into the Launcher you downloaded and select to clear defaults, then you will be prompted when clicking Home again.

Or just uninstall the downloaded launcher.

Pinch to zoom is a native feature anyway, not something exclusive to a launcher

Locale is what you're looking for, but it costs $9.99. It is very, very good though.

I treat most market comments like Youtube comments, as if they were written by a child! People comment without thinking like giving a widget 1 star because they "couldn't run it" when you don't run widgets you apply them from the widget menu.

Locale is what you're looking for, but it costs $9.99. It is very, very good though.

Try Tasker, its not in the Market yet but is better than Locale, a little more difficult to configure though

Looking at the comments on the app, people don't like it very much

It doesn't work on some handsets without a bit of configuration, so people instantly rate it one star and state it doesn't work. It's a problem you see all over the marketplace.

A widget is visible on a home screen and updates itself regularly with new data, like the latest twitter posts or the time. If you click the widget then it may do an action, often it opens the app.

An app doesn't have a widget and can only have an icon on a home screen.

Widgets can't be seen in the Programs list.

Widget = something you apply to the homescreen via long pressing the desktop and applying a widget.

Application = something you run from the application launcher!

There's loads of configurations for you to choose from, the same widget is loaded twice in my screenshot for example, one weather, one clock

So the weather and time on your homescreen is a Widget and your icon for say Gmail and facebook are applications ?

Sorry for the dumb sounding questions been out of the whole cell phone/tech race for the last 18 months as a backpackers budget does not stretch to the latest toys

Looking forward to spending some cash when I get back to the uk!!
