Essential Android Apps

Hmm, possibly. I am just on stock sense 4.1/android 4.0.4 on my S.

What you could just do for now, is set a gesture for the "find" feature.

Doesn't look the same as the method above, but it does the job :)

Good idea.

Installed Swiftkey...it's really good! Quite pricey for an app though, guess I'll need to make a decision on that in a month.

Anyone know a good app to pin lock apps on my phone. For example I want to set Whatsapp to request a pin before opening...

Can anyone reccomend a simple time/date/weather widget? the stock 4x2 accuweather jobbie on the SGS3 is a bit large. I now have a 2x1 clock and date, so just want a weather app that shows temp/forecast preferably in a 2x1. with a pretty picture :P

Cheers.

Fancy Widgets.

which browser? The default one on IcS is terriable, unless the manufacture installed some odd thing.

which phone do you have out of interest?

either

quick ics browser

dolphin

xscope

holoweb

Chrome is excellent I find too.

Nexus - have you tried Dolphin beta? I find it super smooth and fast - can you see if it's as fast as Dolphin+Jetpack?

I do like chrome too and really like the UI etc. but the font rendering puts me off completely, I don't like how it enlarges the majority of text and keeps some other text tiny and due to this, double tap to zoom doesn't work as well then.

Just tried it out now and can't say I notice a huge difference, I think dolphin with jetpack addon, renders the pages quicker (i.e. as a whole).....

But it has the same issues as dolphin with the jetpack addon, text reflow not fully working :(

If I had to rate the browsers for speed/quickness rendering, it would be as follows:

1. dolphin with jetpack and dolphin beta
2. normal dolphin, xscope and holoweb

Those 5 are very close though and IMO not really worth worrying about that one area.

3. quick ics browser/ics browser +
4. firefox/chrome

Again the above 4 are very close.

For smoothness, I find them all more or less the same, but pinch to zoom and the UI is the smoothest on dolphin.

I really like dolphin, it is always updated and with each update it just seems to get better features/improvements unlike quick ics etc., nice UI (I do prefer the minimal ICS style of quick ics though), fast and has the addons.

I would love to use firefox as my main browser for the desktop to mobile sync feature and the stylish & adblock addon, but the font rendering issues with it and poor UI puts me of completely.

I use Dolphin beta solely for forum browsing in portrait as Quick ICS only enlarges fonts to 170% not 200% like on my S2. Its an S3 thing.

Chrome's thing of enlarging certain text is why I like it - makes reading this easier on sites like engadget, anandtech etc. Double tap zooms into the text as I would like it.

Still, plenty of selection for all.

The part that I hate the most and the part that you love the most :D

Been using Boat Browser (as One X has some issues with Chrome) and must say its a great alternative to the ones mentioned here:)

Tried it many times to, but personally not keen on the UI, too safari in some places and didn't find it as quick as quick ICS browser etc.

Go right ahead.

Not got the time to keep on top of it. Not got a pc at the moment so would be a pain trying to sort it out.

It would be nice to have something like the following:

Best home Launchers:

Go launcher

Apex
and Nova (requires android V4+)

Best gallery apps:

Gallery ICS

QuickPic

Best Keyboards:

SwiftKey

etc. etc.

But....

I think a new thread would be pointless because most people will post asking what the best apps are anyway :p, regardless of how detailed and up to date the first post is :p

It's not a phone mk802&ug802 pc on a stick.

So needs to be tablet optimized, is there anyway to tell?
