Essential Android Apps

You can't, you can only have it on or off (in account settings) - it'll adjust sync times depending on how often you get emails - the more it pulls in every time it syncs, the more often it will sync (it will decide that you're popular and need to read your mails more) - but on the flip side, if it syncs ever hour and gets nothing for two attempts, it'll increase the interval as you're obviously a billy-no-mates lol

You can turn off sync with a toggle in the pull-down window so you can do it manually if you prefer (that's how I do it)

This is how Gmail works when it pulls mail from other linked accounts e.g. your ISP email etc to your Gmail account. When it is in Gmail, the emails are pushed straight away.

Hi. what is a good app to stop my 3 gmail account from auto syncing all the time?

on the gmail settings, you cannot specify the interval time to sync.

i wish to set it to so it only syncs and pulls new emails once every 2 hours for example

You can't stop Gmail from checking for mail.

It doesn't really "check" for new email, it just sits around doing nothing (occasionally it'll re-open the connection to Google when the previous one times out) until Google's servers tell your phone that you have a new email.

If you're worried about battery life, having sync on shouldn't reduce your battery that much, otherwise you can use a different email app that uses POP3 (I think IMAP is push too?, I don't know much about other apps/IMAP/POP3 as I don't use them) instead and set an update time :).

Apparently there were posters up around facebook HQ saying 'do you droidfood'. Encouraging the developers to use the android app, to see how bad it really was.

Hopefully it means a tablet-optimised version is in the works. So sick of still having to deal with apps from major companies that aren't optimised for tablets. For the smaller portrait tablets it's not such an issue it seems, but for a Tab 8.9 like mine, it's a hassle when an app forces the orientation to go portrait, or just isn't designed with the extra width in mind.

Google+ looks like they've let the kids at it, with all the primary colours!

I'm sick of Facebook on all platforms, the browser version is still faster and better. Does anybody know of an Android alternative to Boxcar? Email notifications are now ruined on Facebook as well...

EDIT: SMS notifications will suffice, I guess.

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...z4DwAg&usg=AFQjCNFxrmkmj30aSRWnl9Or1OTri7r-fA

sorry its no good its American and when you tap it it says not compatible. maybe we get the same deals i don't know.

Been using it for a while. Although it's in dollars, every app I've looked has had the same discount for the UK. Haven't come across any compatibility problems :)

You're probably already aware, but the FB app just got a big overhaul. It's actually alright now.

Another one you could try is Friendcaster. Used it in the past with it's push notifications.

Yeah, the new one is still slower than the web interface, still has plenty of bugs, and notifications are still not working properly. FriendCaster didn't allow control over post privacy, last time I checked, and either way, I didn't really like it. Web app and text notifications should be perfect :)
