Another voice assistant for Android in the form of Jeannie. Seems a bit better than the other 3 I have on the phone :)

Check out the video on the page for an idea of what its capable of. Works a lot better if you buy it.
 
How does one update apps bought from get jar / amazon store!? Eg I managed to get SwiftKey via getjar and there is now an update from market but i get update was decline because I haven't bought it!?
 
Google Voce had been updated to:

1. Prefetch voicemails so they can be listened to even when there is no data coverage
2. Allow sending text messages to multiple recipients

So you can now spam your contacts.

Finally got round to getting the Amazon App Store working :)

The guide that was mentioned here worked a treat, although I put down Google's HQ as the address. Took me a while to work out that there is 2 sections where you need to turn on 1-click purchasing - Your card & your address.

Amazon store has its own update feature. Press the menu button when in the app and select "My Apps", you'll be able to see all your purchased apps here and install any that you want, any updates will be shown in the update tab (you might have to press refresh in the first tab "New" to get it to check).

GetJar doesn't have updates, it's just a one time thing. Most of the apps on there are already old versions, if you want the updates/newer features you'll have to buy the app (or wait for Amazon to give it away :p).

Edit: May as well add Bejeweled 2 is todays Free App of the Day :).

^^ thanks mate, just installed amazon app store, missed Quickoffice from the other day...
its nicer to view and use than the getjar app..cant wait for getjar to get autoupdates feature.

Think if you have problems with the facebook notifications you need to have someone with a blackberry log in to your account once. This supposedly kick starts the android notifications.

I have not tried this myself, but have a google
 
I'm new to all this android lark so go easy :P

This isn't so much an android app, but I don't think its phone specific either so will post it here, hopefully there isn't anywhere else I should post it.

If my texts get too long, say 2 or 3 texts, the phone automatically converts them to mms which i have to pay for.... is there a way around this?

I have a samsung galaxy s2 running 2.3.5, with a o2 splash logo if that matters.

Use a different messaging app, or if you're rooted you can download a modified MMS.apk (Samsung's messaging app on the S2) which changes the amount of text messages before converting to MMS.

No idea why samsung decided you could only send 4 texts (iirc) before converting to MMS :(.
 
OK I've finally got round to rooting my phone (finally !)

Question is, what now?

What is the first thing I should do with a rooted SGS2?
What is the 2nd thi..... you get the idea :p
Where do I go to find a custom.apk for example.

I'd recommend Adfree Android from the market, it edits the hosts file with a load of ad servers, removing a lot of ads from websites/games/apps :).

Titanium Backup is always handy as well (I just use the free version, I don't see any reason to get the paid one), allows you to back up all your apps and their data easily for when you switch ROMs/have to factory reset.

HC-kTool is also a good app if you're someone who switches ROMs a lot (not so much for you Egon, although I'd recommend making a backup anyways :)). It allows you to easily backup your EFS folder incase some ROM flash decides to nuke it giving you a broken phone (EFS isn't backed up by CWM Recovery).
 
Not yet no, is there anywhere I can go for ideas? I like the sound of a custom mms .apk and I'd also like to change the default battery icon. The problem is I don't know where to look.

What's an EFS folder? :o
 
EFS folder is where your IMEI and stuff is stored, if it gets deleted you get no signal. It's fixable without a backup but afaik only Odia from XDA knows how to do it and he charges from what I've seen, so using the app is worthwhile IMO. It's literally just press button to backup, then you can store that where ever you want just incase you ever need it in the future (which is pretty unlikely, but always a chance) :).

Here is what most people use for battery mods, if you're on a stock ROM you'll want to choose odexed when given the option.

It seems I deleted the link I had for the modified MMS.apk, I'll have a look to see whether I can find it.
 
Eurgh, the update for Swiftkey X just broke it :(. Trying Thumb Keyboard now since I got it on Amazon a while ago and mrk goes on about it all the time.

Really don't like it ATM :p. Hopefully it won't take long for Swiftkey to be fixed.

Edit: Hmm, after installing the update everything was force closing, rebooted the phone and the keyboard wouldn't open in any apps. Now it's working fine again :confused:. Oh well, guess I can uninstall Thumb Keyboard :).

Lol, just randomly popped up saying it's saved me 10k keystrokes.

It seems to double vibrate when long pressing a key, don't remember it doing that before the update, feels horrible :(.

Edit Again: In the actual app it says that it's saved me 25k keystrokes, not 10k, wonder why it just popped up :confused:.
