European court: You are allowed to resell your steam games

Best way this would work for steam & other game providers.

STEAM allows you to sell ur games to friends or on STEAM AUCTION.

Step 1- You put it up for say £10
Step 2 -random person Pays £10
Step 3 - STEAM data servers do the exchange of cash with no names mentioned & take a 10% Cut.
Step 4 - STEAM sends 5% cut to Orignal Developer
Step 5 STEAM takes 5% for Trasaction

STEAM - PROFIT
DEVLOPER - PROFIT
WE - PROFIT!

So you can't blame the publisher/developer for putting out weak DLC? come off it who else should get the blame? just because some mug buys horses armour or a pink hat for his character does not make the dev's/publishers justified in putting out such weak cr*p its being exploitative & that can never be justified in my book.

The ruling states that the Digital Distributer is not entitled to charge a fee for the transfer of a license/rights

What a fantastic ruling! Games I no longer bother to play can be recycled and I get a couple of quid in with it as well.

I always wondered why there was so much bum-love for Valve and Steam as it really did try and destroy the used games market.

Because with the sales I've picked up games I wouldn't have bought otherwise, and because they're at deep discounts, would likely be cheaper than second hand variants.

Take Alan Wake, that cost me 5.75 on PC with the DLC, I can't see someone selling it that cheap so soon if they'd bought it at a regular price.

But you use a CD/Serial key when you make your account, so you should be able to revoke the activation and sell it on.

That is true, however MMO's are an odd case, the CD key is used to purchase and create an account, that account can then be accessed from any installation.

MMO accounts are a subscription based service, in the same way you don't own the equipment at the gym you are just paying for the facilities.

On MMO's you can create the account without a CD Key, you activate the CD key within your account.
Revoking the activation = Problem solved.

Although I'm guessing there's some MMO's that make you activate a CD Key when you register an account.
I know SWTOR doesn't, I had my account before I registered a CD Key, Rift was the same.

Remember the software for most (if not all) MMO's is free anyway, it's the account that you pay for, as a result you couldn't sell the license because there isn't one, there is only the account itself which doesn't come under the ruling.

Now of course you can buy boxed copies in shops however you can download exactly the same software for free, it's the account that you are paying for. Even with stuff like WoW expansions, the retail CD key from a box is only used to give the account access to new content.

An MMO game without an account is useless and the account is not owned by the player, as a result, no selling of accounts.

The account still has a license attached to it, you revoke the license.
The account loses the ability to play, the license can be resold.

License isn't always put onto the account at time of making the account.
You could make a SWTOR account, then buy the game and activate a license, same as WOW because of their free trial etc.

There's no reason why it should be any different.

You are mistaking the word licence, this ruling is about SOFTWARE LICENCES.

An MMO account is not a software licence.

Stop saying account.
You still activate a serial key on the account (NOT ALWAYS MADE WITH THE SERIAL KEY) to allow you to use the account, in the same sense you use a serial key to play your game.

Revoke the serial key, jobs done.

The only thing I'd like steam to do is when you buy a game bundle, those games you already have a copy of it would be nice if it gave you a giftable copy of that game.

Oh my I was thinking this the other day! I got the Dawn of War pack but because i already owned the Original game I didn't get another copy.

Why? That is what this little discussion is about.

No it isn't.
It's the serial key that's been used on the account.
You revoke that serial key, the serial key can be sold on.
Nothing to do with the stupid account, other than it now doesn't have access to the game.

Accounts can't be sold, that's a given.
