Vettel is good and has bags of talent, there's no doubt about that, but then he has the car to carry him. As for Alonso, the guy delivers pretty much all the time, even in a Inferior car. He's in a class of his own.

When you are going for the title, you can't afford to get involved in spits and spats with drivers who are not your rivals (eg. Maldo)
He isn't on his own up there. Remember Vettel was way out in front in Qualifying, and comfortably pulling away at 1 second a lap without looking like he was even trying.
With this season as close as it is, everyone is a rival.
As for Alonso: a good drive. Not great (by his standards), but good.
