European Grand Prix 2012, Valencia - Race 8/20

He has 30 points, I doubt it :)

You just never know though. I know it's unlikely but you can't write it off

If Maldonado hadn't done something daft in about 4-5 (!) races he would be right up there - he's shown that he's as quick as the big boys. All he needs to do is sort his head out.

Exactly. Just like if Mclaren sorted out their pits hamilton would not have pasta as a potential rival nor would he have been involved in an incident with him today.

He definitely has the speed, he just looses his head far too often and just crashes into people. Doesn't surprise me that the FIA fail to take action though.

Dude seriously, Maldonado is NOT a rival for the title.
Vettel, Webber and Alonso - yes.
Maldonado - a big NO.

I think one of the interviewers questions to Hamilton was a good one...

"you think you should have let Maldonado through?"

And he responded stating that you never let competitors through...

But earlier on he said his tyres we're completely shot by the end....

Hindsight is wonderful... so surely he should have just let Maldonado through if he was going to be had anyway later on in the lap... especially considering the history with the guy whos trying to overtake him?

Any word on the ruling?

So what now, slower drivers should be letting faster ones through?

2 weeks ago everyone wanted the slower drivers to be able to fight for their position when they were all getting mugged by DRS.

Make your mind up guys.

No depends on the context of the situation, as mentioned above, have to think about the championship...
Your car at the point in the race is shot.. why risk an accident with a crash prone drive such as Maldouglyfacenado... Hamilton admited his car was on the way down cause of his tyres...

From what's been said in here I doubt there will be any action against Maldonado, possibly action against Hamilton for squeezing him off the track when they were side by side at the first bend.

Any penalty will be for the offence of 'causing an avoidable collision', which will fall entirely on Maldonado.

Ah good point yes, infact, whats the rule concerning that exactly? Shouldt hamilton have left maldonado a cars width or something?

Also, it would be great to see the replays of all the other overtakes through that corner in the race, cause there were MANY of them and they were all realtively clean...

They didn't punish rosberg for pushing two drivers clean off the track at bahrain so that shouldn't be a problem.

"My tyres were gone," said Hamilton. "I don't know where I would have finished. Over the last lap or so, my tyres just went - it was almost like I had flat tyres at the back."

But asked whether he felt in retrospect he should have let Maldonado go, Hamilton replied: "You never let people past, you've got to race for every position you can get."

I dont know sounds like Hamilton was trying to clutch onto a position that was destined to be lost...

I can appreciate he wants to drive to the limit, but I guess this season has taught us that driving to the limit != win races.

The cars width rule applied to braking zones.

It was Hamiltons corner and Maldonados job to get passed. Hamilton took his line through the corner and Maldonado ran out of road. Everything up to that point was just 'racing'. We saw Massa on that kerb a couple of times trying to pass people, and a number of others through the race too.

The incident is Maldonado's choice to try to take the second part of the corner by rejoining the track into the side of Hamiltons car.

Everything up to the point Maldonado turned right was racing, everything after it was an avoidable incident caused by Maldonado.

wreckless driving from hamilton as usual

As others have already said, you must have watched the race in an alternate universe. Just because you hate him, for whatever reason, does not entitle you to just make stuff up and then pass it off as truth on a forum. Try and make evidence based posts from now on.

I didnt realist that his car was just travelling on the kerb when he plunged into the side of Hamilton, I didnt realise those kerbs were that high...

Good race

Such a shame about RG, really hoped for the win there, but he handled his dnf the best out of everyone!

Alonso's drive was brilliant but he also had all the luck. Safety car, lead car and second out. Perfect day for him!

Maldanaldo, never liked him, I support lotus so not biased like many lol and feel it's his fault because he was off the track, pretty much by his own accord, then tried to overtake from off road.As bad as verne was at least he admitted it. Maldanaldo strikes me as a bit of a thug who would never admit to being at fault

Very good considering the track, really liked RG overtaking LH, probably my fav part of the race.

Oh, I also thought Hamilton should have just given the place, guess not shouldve but I would've done, I forsaw that accident coming half a lap before

As usual massa.. It was what 'lol' was made for
