European Grand Prix 2012, Valencia - Race 8/20

Shock as Valencia actually produces a decent race. Hat off to Alonso, showing once again he is the best driver on the grid at present.

This, was expecting a poor race this weekend.

Alonso looks like he could win this year. Feel bad for Lewis and had a good old laugh when Seb stopped. :D

I understand your all passionate about Hamiltion, but he should have been a sportsman like Paul DR and gave it up since his tryres were shot.

There's a difference between being completely outmatched many laps before the end of a race, and still having a fighting chance on the final few laps. No racer will just give up a place that close to the end, if they feel they can still hold it... Why would they!?

Up to the point where Pasta left the track, completely agree that it's a racing incident. Once Pasta decided to drive into Lewis though, is when it stops being a racing incident, and moves to something far more malicious.

This. Except you can't say it was malicious :-/

Ok so what I believe happened, in summary: PM tries to go round the outside, LH obviously fighting for his place keeps his line. In addition to trying to hold PM off, LH's tyres are shot, probably understeering too, all contributing to squeezing PM off track (no fault of either driver).

PM tries to stick to his move, fails to realise a) he doesn't have as much drive around the outside as he hoped and won't make it back onto the track ahead of LH, b) the point at which he re-enters the track he will have no control.

Basically in retrospect he should have bailed and cut the corner as soon as he went wide. Combination of poor racing judgment + over zealous driving + LH being no pushover but in a failing car. I can't see the malice in this.

His penalty is a bit of a joke though. Very inconsistent.

No penalty for Schumacher.
Stewards say he slowed considerably through the waved yellows.

Teams were under the impression that DRS must not be used in yellow flag area, even if you go slower.

Wait for the next race, then you might see the malice.

I now expect Hamilton to lose a front wing again to Maldonado during the FP sessions at some point.

About time Schumacher had some good luck. I'm pleased for him as he's had a lot of bad luck this season.

Makes you wonder where he might be had he finished some of those races which he had to retire from (through no fault of his own) in a strong position a lot of the time.

I think Hamilton could've avoided an incident by giving a bit more room, and I see a return to his 'hot head' with this.
It was inevitable that Maldonado would get past in the next few corners, but his 'past' with Maldonado skewed his decision to just attempt to put him in his place.
For sure Maldonado should've just safely returned to the circuit, but Hamilton had a lot to lose here, and he paid the bigger price.

Still, great race from Alonso, some of his passes shows what a super-star he is. I'm thrilled that Vettle's car broke to liven this up, but I'm slightly worried at the pace he showed (for nothing more than to ensure we get a good season).

Here's a question for the 'experts' - could anyone here honestly see Vettle do what Alonso did in this race?

I hope that is the case, then maybe just maybe through the cloud of weed smoke and LSD hallucinations in the stewards office they may just see that maldonado needs throwing out.

I wouldn't bet on it. The Hamilton incident in Spa or the incident in Monaco should have been enough on there own.

Fully agree with this. Penalty or not, its not going to do much good fighting with Maldonado with the mindset of "Oh if he decides to pull off something untoward he will be in deep doodoo". As you said, its not Maldonado hes fighting for the championship.

Now.. replace Maldonado with say Vettel or Alonso, then I would say keep your position 100%....

Simple facty of the matter... Hamilton picked the wrong time to be stubborn.
Yes its his right, yes hes entitled to it, but look where it got him... he ran the risk, he paid for it... even though I agree the incident is not Hamiltons fault...

Just like life on normal roads, there are also some right ****s driving on formula 1 tracks also.

The same hot head Hamilton that yielded a position much earlier on in the race? Maldanado tried to pull off a stupid move, ran wide and then instead of slowing and cutting the corner - turned his wheel to the right when the only outcome would be a collision and the FIA agrees with that so there's not much room for much argument after that...

I fail to see how taking the racing line when your opponent is off the track completely can be seen as stubborn?

GOT B A GUD SPORTZMAN LOL INIT

You know just like in football when the other team is all over you, you just let them score because it's good sportsmanship. That's how you become champion.
