** European League Thread (Spain/Germany/France etc) **

My Spainish is not great, but the stream I'm watching is Spainish, and the commentary sounds so much more exciting than the English!! It's like every attack is the final leg of a horse race :D

Second half hasn't been a patch on the first. Way way way more cheating, not much good football. Real's offence hasn't clicked this half really at all. Midfield non existent, still can't see anything useful Kroos does. Defensively he's never anywhere at all and offensively he only helps if the team is on top, I've never seen him be the guy making the difference. Modric was playing well in the first half but dropped off, maybe fitness, he's only really just back from injury so maybe not surprising.

Madrid sulking since the goal went in.

It's not that, they've had a LOT of games like this, many many more since Modric has been injured. Ronaldo isn't just standing on the half way line, if the team don't pass him the ball he can't do anything with the ball. Messi is being given the ball and Real are allowing the Barca offence MASSIVELY more space to work in with less defenders to play against.

Real are great on the counter, significantly less good when needing to break down the opposition. The key difference is Real just seem to forget how to pass when they can't just knock it long and run after it. They've played like this for a few years for often long periods of maybe more games than not throughout a season. Games they play well and dominate over 90 mins are very few and far between. They usually end up in this situation at some stage in a game.

What Barca have done much better this half is sit back, make it difficult to be caught on the break and then Real stupidly pile forward and leave themselves open at the back. If Real stayed further back and encouraged Barca forward they could do the same.

Real are a very odd team, they get into that "we don't know what to do next" mode and they struggle to get out of it or change what they are doing.

Ronaldo has a first half hat-trick. Keeper **** himself I think!

Madrid are flying right now.

9-1 in the end. A few things that game has highlighted. Hernandez is nowhere near RM quality. Modric is probably one of their best and most important players and Ronaldo is not worth anything like the amount United would end up paying to bring him back to Old Trafford. Hes a greedy hippo and the quality of that RM team makes him look good and gets him a lot more goals than he would in a lesser team no set up to indulge him. He could have had 9 goals himself today with better finishing.

Complete rot. He scores 5 in what was essentially an exhibition match and people are having a go at him. He has proved himself at the very highest level year after year. I think he's allowed a "bad spell" without getting grief from armchair experts. Is he still worth 80 mil? Probably not, but he's still the best around.
