** European League Thread (Spain/Germany/France etc) **

They are 2nd in La Liga, they were 3rd last season and they were champions the season before. Since Diego Simeone's 1st full season, Atlético Madrid have out performed Real. They don't win big, they grind out results. Willing to spend big money. I think it's hard not to call Atlético Madrid one of the biggest clubs in Europe already, especially as they have a great chance of coming in above Real again this year.

Also, great play by Paco to set up Santi Mina and great finish too!!! 1-1 game on!!!

The simple fact is they aren't. They have a circa 300mil a season lower revenue than Real last I checked. They aren't in the same ball park. Real/Utd/Chelsea/City/Barca can offer Griezmann 200k+ a week, they could even do 400k a week if they wanted. Atletico really can't afford more than 100k a week, they can for a single player but then you get into trouble with other players wanting more money. Outperformed Real, in the league sure but Real won the champs league in that time frame.

They're a very VERY good team under Simeone, he's done a truly amazing job. Both him and Klopp I think are exceptionally good managers, different styles but both exciting, both play good football. I think you're under selling them with the grinding out results. Yeah sometimes they end up holding out but they aren't afraid of attacking or scoring. I think they have something Mourinho never had, balance. The ability to build a complete team that is good offensively and defensively and they buy very well, spot talent, gel players together into a team, use their squad effectively and sustain success over multiple seasons.

But ultimately the best players can get 100k a week at an Atletico and 300k a week at a Real. Griezmann is 24 and I would say at this time is already one of the best strikers in europe, versatile, great pace, fantastic finishing of all kinds. He has a killer power strike and can score from range, good poacher, can head the ball. Also good vision, passing and plays well as a wide striker. One of the biggest teams can afford to give him huge money and keep him for 8-10 years while having one of the best strikers around.

Honestly Utd should have gone for him before, they absolutely should go for him now. Martial and Griezmann would counter attack great with each other and will be in a very very strong French team over the next 10 years together.

I'm not saying your wrong but in terms of ability, they ARE one of the biggest clubs in Europe right now. They are well within the top 20 richest clubs in Europe (crazy debt i know).

With young guys like Koke and Griezmann as well as Óliver Torres, Saúl, Carrasco, Angel Correa, Vietto, Jose Maria Giménez and Jan Oblak all being around 22 maybe 23 and younger and playing great... and all have id say 8 games or more this season already...

I know what you mean though, teams like Bayern, Man City are bigger but not all players want to leave Spain. Griezmann will maybe go after the Euros but every time I have seen him give interviews he seems pretty adamant on helping Atleti as well as growing as a player which makes sense as he as some of the best young talent around him as well as experienced players to learn from.

As for Koke, another player that gets linked to "Bigger" clubs... he is born in Madrid so it is unlikely he will ever want to play for another team in Spain and I can't see him leaving La Liga which I think helps Simone out. Very loyal to young players and allows them to grow, the more that happens I think will mean the bigger chance of guys like Griezmann staying longer and longer.

It will be interesting to see how the club develops... Spain needs a huge team to rival the power of Real and Barca... Atleti have a huge opportunity, big fan base, huge gates.

Also, I know just looking at results do not show everything but they do grind out results... Personally I think thats the sign of a good team :p I wasn't being unfair on them. They are in a high scoring league but don't getting involved in many high scoring games. Shows they can dictate pace and grind out wins.

Infuriating, after the game the player himself was asked about it and apparently said it was very unsporting and doesn't know why he did it, seemed to be saying he wasn't proud of it.

I remember when Torres did it for Pool, it was the first time I'd ever seen it happen and personally though it was clear and intentional cheating to the point if a ref saw it, it should be a yellow at the very least, potentially a straight red for how completely dishonest and crappy it is.

Barca messed up again, 2-0 lead maybe with 15mins to go, they concede one goal but it's ruled offside, Deportivo still managed to score two more and draw the game, great performance second half from them.

Bayern went back to winning ways, Lever absolutely killed the hardest to spell Borussia team 5-0, hat-trick for Hernandez who is still playing out of his skin. He was actually excellent for Real last year though somehow no one noticed. Missed like one big chance in preseason, or was it a full game, so Utd got shot of a player who is significantly better than Rooney. Both his interplay/off the ball work and goal scoring is way way better than Rooney has been in years.

Only an away draw for Sociedad however they've lost only 1 in 4 since Moyes was replaced and that was away at Barcelona. Won two at home in 4 games, had won 2 all season before that. It's a good start, they look more free in attack, they look more confident when attacking due to the type of players they have.

I saw Bayern were winning 1-0 and Xabi had scored and I thought, I bet it's a bloody amazing goal....and guess what...it was.

And with that I bid you goodnight.

This has gone **** up for Rayo. 2-1 up at the Bernabeu after 15 mins, 3-2 down with two men sent off after 30 mins.
