** European League Thread (Spain/Germany/France etc) **

Mentioned in transfer thread, James went off for Real and certainly seemed to be saying goodbye. Currently 2-1 for Real and Barca in their games. Equal points but Real still have the game in hand.

Dutch league was decided today buy Kuyt scoring a hat-trick to seal the league for Feyenoord who haven't won it for 18 years.

Looking at the first goal, I am appalled that the goal has stood :(

I don't love it but it's well within the rules. Basically you can take any freekick quickly but if you do your forgo any right to retake. So basically if he takes that and it hits an opposition player standing a yard away and they take it up the other end and score, that stands too. If you ask for a wall you have to wait for the whistle, then both teams get a little time to prepare for it. If you want to take it instantly then you can. Mostly opposition players will stand in the way to make a quick freekick worthless and then the ref will indicate to wait for the whistle. The issue is, quick freekicks won't happen for say a year, everyone gets complacent expecting the ref to make them all wait for the whistle and they get lazy and forget to stand in the way. Then a quick freekick happens, everyone is surprised and players will remember to block the shot for a while until it's been so long everyone forgets and we get another goal like it. Rinse repeat, it's been happening for years. We get a goal like this probably every 1-2 years.

Why?

Did the referee indicate for them to wait for the whistle, if not then the quick thinking should be applauded, they were fouled against to stop them attacking so why should they then be penalised by allowing the defending team to re-group behind the ball?

Monaco score 2-0 right at the end to cap it off, good goal from Mbappe earlier. Ronaldo scored 2 lovely goals, brilliant finishes, particularly the first, now take a 3 point lead into the final day. I'm not sure on the head to head, Barca won the last game right, first was a draw iirc, so if they finish on the same points Barca win? So Real win if they draw or win, Barca have to win and Real lose for them to take the title?
