EV general discussion

If you can get it through salary sacrifice with insurance and service included on a similar price that would be excellent cos it will insulate you against so many issues.
It’s not cheeper (at least not on my scheme) it’s the same price as the MG4 which makes no sense.

Even ORA website is advertising personal leases starting at £185 (but with a £2220 deposit). The OTR price is now officially BS.

It will surely depreciate by more than £7K in 3 years. The vat alone on the list price is £6.4K!!!

RHD model already in the UK plus ORA will bank a ZEV credit which could be worth between £10-15k if another manufacturer can't meet their target at some point over the next three years. IT's a gamble but the usual economics don't apply at present.

The catch is range and a tiny boot.

EV database has the real world range at 160 miles and it could be as low as 110 miles in winter.

This is second car only territory.

The boot is also only 228 litres.

Going to take a look at one tomorrow and see when the wife thinks. They just offered a 24hr test drive straight away which is interesting.

Oh it wouldn't even be a second car it would be a third but to have a brand new car that requires little to no servicing and no mot for the monthly payments equal to our fuel costs it would be great. Both myself and the wife need to enquire about the charging at work. I think it is free for both of us. Our commutes over 7 days totals 150 miles max.

Need, no. But if IOG helps you save money fueling the car, then has to be considered. I'd pay more for a compatible car as, depending on use, the overall cost may work out the same or less due to IOG savings.

It’s a difference of 1.5p per KWH, yes you get more low peak time (1hr + spot charging slots). That's a lot of KWH to make up the difference to pay for a compatible car or new charger.

It's more the slots outside for the whole house. I've been paying 7.5p since 6:30 this evening.

Entirely depends on your usage etc. Would be essential for me.

Maybe instead of EVs OTR being £20k. They would offer cheap lease deals at limited time period.

Due to a variety of factors such as traditional car makers having to pay credit for not meeting ZEV targets.

Who knows.

Japanese car makers aren’t making anything close to 1%

It's the leasing company that drop off ORA for a test drive, or there is a physical garage/dealer

Suspect the looming shadow of rules of origin and French (them again johhny) restricted credits to eu car brands, that contribute to ora trying to shift as much metal as possible.

Just went to a local dealer. They said that there are some very aggressive deals coming next week for it.

Wife wasn’t that impressed by looks, but was mega surprised by how it drives.

I think it looks alright actually. Bit like those Fiat 500, small bug shaped thing.

Can’t justify it being 30k tho.

Will the rule of origin cause tariff on the car?

It’s way bigger than a 500. The space in the back is excellent. Almost on par with a model 3 or Polestar 2. The boot however is very small.

I could not justify buying at list price. But for a 3 year lease with total cost of sub £7K when running costs are going to be close to zero!

If you are spending a lot on fuel it looks to be a no brainer. Just worked out my current costs, looking at £1k in fuel, £300 insurance and about £300 again for road tax. Unless the crazy £99 deals appear again, I am probably better sticking with my petrol for another few years. Shame as I would love an EV.

Second week of Kona. Update: it's awesome :) maybe same as last week ;)

I thought my favourite drive mode/level was normal regen level 2 but it's normal regen 0/off now.. once I got past the scary feeling that it's not gonna stop it's awesome! Just have to do normal brake pedal driving, which does a little bit to regen enough to slow, on hills etc. Only been using that for 2 days and earlier I got 4.6 miles/kW and it kept going up, so gonna be good to test that some more. Normal/2 mode I was getting between 3.9 and 4.1 miles/kW. To experience what this feels like, drive at 30/40mph and go full clutch/neutral lol.

Minor annoying things are probably common on all cars, have to go into the menu to turn off active lane keep assist every time. Also I can't save regen level 0, only 1,2,3 so have to use the paddle to change that every time as well. And I think this is happening more with regen 2, but when actually stopping the regen seems to go into 'ok full stop mode' even while I'm lifting off the brake a bit, which means I stop sooner than intended, and that mode doesn't stop until the car has stopped. Not sure about the pattern with that and if it never happens in regen 0 then happy days. Unless it's another safety system and thinks I'm gonna crash so breaks for me, but I'm not getting any beeping.

yes seems excellent - what avg speed and trip distances; can you distinguish much blending on brake pedal between mechanical and regen ?
( High regen levels always seem for those who weren't previously ICE driving in an an economical max-anticipation/minimimal brake use mode -
physical brakes or regen are both less efficient than not having to deploy them at all. )

Does it not have a lane keep assist button on the steering wheel? I though these Kia and Hyundai cars were all quite similar.

In my GV70 I can long press the lane assist button and it turns off the lane keep assist.

Travelling to Longleat centre parcs tomorrow from Shropshire. Hoping to charge between Gloucester and Bristol. Any recommendations?
