Well first 24 hours with the Tesla Model Y and my thoughts: (my first EV too)
Positives:
- It's a genuinely great car, no regrets and love it (although I do miss my B58

)
- Super quiet and comfortable. Cabin is nice and light (glass roof).
- Controls are really intuitive, especially coming from someone who always wanted buttons. It's pretty easy and quick to get to things you want, and once it's set up, you're not faffing too much anyway.
- Handles surprisingly well for such a car, remember thinking the same on the test drive back in Summer.
- Convenience. Small thing, but this morning it was heated to 20C, and when I jumped in, sat nav already set for work.
- Everything just seems to work. Like the 'stand by the boot and it will auto open'. I was thinking, yeh bet that only works when it wants to, but no, every single time.
- Ludicrously fast. Still not given it full beans for any prolonged stretch, but done a few blasts from 30-60 and it's just silly. Reminds me of being in the rollercoaster - I get the same 'feeling' in my stomach when I accelerate.
- The whole buying process was a breeze, and apart from a few quick chats in the app - I only spoke to two people when I picked it up, for a total of about 5 mins. Sign in, your car is in bay I25, come back to help set up the app - done. I was driving off after 20 mins of being in there (most of that time was setting everything up in the car)
- Really quiet inside, especially coming from a 140i.
- One pedal driving is amazing! Coming to a junction without even touching the brake, and then being stationary with nothing on the pedals was odd at first, but again, strangely intuitive.
- NO SILLY EU BONGS/CRAP! A big relief this one, but I hate modern cars and all their safety **** but thankfully this has none of that (well it might do but I'm not being bonged at every 5 minutes, and I don't need to turn anything off every time I drive)
Negatives:
- Not really a negative, but it's not a 'drivers' car at all. The steering feels like it's connected to nothing. But it still drives well.
- Rear visibility is not great, although you can turn on the rear camera at the touch of a button.
- Wasn't impressed with the audio initially (despite this having the best system in the range), but after fiddling with the EQ (lowered the treble A LOT) it's much much better.
- I have to worry about my other half, whose entire driving history consists of a Toyota Aygo and a Fiesta 1.0, making it back home in one piece (rather the car!)
- It sits far too high! Like it's on stilts! Not sure if lowering is a thing, but I think a nice 20mm drop would suit it, not sure if it would bugger up anything though.
Not really something for either camp, but took a bit of faffing to get things the way I wanted with my solar and battery set up at home, but after midday when the home battery was full, I was sending about 5kw into the car for a few hours. 'Paid' for my commute to work, so 100% free driving.
I also tested the overnight charging on the cheaper rate, and that worked too (although Octopus seemingly gave me a cheaper hour at 8pm oddly, so it started charging then)
So no regrets so far!
