EV general discussion

I mean, you can't say it's not cool. :D

Pretty smart marketing, using the SpaceX team to create something like this.

Obviously the flying element isn't going to be legal in public, but I can definitely see some variation of it being available (albeit in very limited numbers).

You can pre-order: https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/roadster
I wonder what the final price will be for the "augmented" version with boosters! No doubt even the base model is going to be 200k plus if rumors are to be believed.

The tip gets the odd tickle

The one that was released, sold, and largely still in use today?
That one, or something else?
As far as I can see from a quick google, there were 2450 made, and around 2000 are still in use.

I think he's referencing the one they announced a few years ago, looked really cool but never went into production. Not sure why.

Yeah, that's the one. Coming soon... for 9 years then poof... we sent one to space so that project is done. NEXT UP... flying mini Cybertruck. Get your pre-orders in for delivery in twentynever.

A few? It was 2017!

This in theory is the same car.

I think the main issue was the battery technology they needed to build the car spec of the car shown in 2017 is only now available today.

He made a real life rocket league vehicle.

Cool as **** but no way this would be street legal.

edit, a few thoughts

1 - This doesn't fly, it barely hops or jumps. Which makes it useless in the real world, where are you going to land? you are not jumping queues of traffic....are you going to land on other cars? Are you using this to escape the police road blocks? Going to keep hopping away? There's going to be a helicopter chasing you anyway.

2 - The Mk1 isn't even out after like 10 years, I take Elon's claim of this going into production in 2028 with a Himalayan-sized grain of salt.

3 - There is a "road legal" version without thrusters, meaning it's not getting made anyway beyond a few demo units.

4 - The sucking part is very cool though, that is going to help cornering on a racetrack....in the real world though, you are no faster than a VW Polo going in the streets of LA.

5 - Thinking more about it, those thrusters won't be legal. Imagine you are behind it, and this car is in front and he decides to go into insane mode and launch with thrusters....that force blowing back is going to blow the cars behind it backwards unless you are in some really aero-efficient car. It is going to cause car accidents without physical contact.

As far as I can tell it's a $250k car, that's the price on the website when you go to order, unless that's just the deposit

The rocket version that makes the car fly has no price
