EVE vs WOW

I love Eve; it's a truly fantastic game and easily the superior of World of Warcraft in terms of longevity, scope and player community (there are far too many belligerent children on the WoW realms.
Although, I always kind of wished that you could have direct control of your crafts, a la Jumpgate or FE2. I suppose that wouldn't be prudent when controlling some of the behemoth ships.

It would be nice, but it's just not technically feasible with a game of EVE's scale I'm afraidWang Computer said:

Now consider how much more information would be getting sent to and from each client if you're continually adjusting the ship's trajectoy.

I wouldnt go for either tbh. Either game will take over your life to the point of hating it. Seriously just pick up an online fps/rts that you can pick up for a couple hours and drop it.
If you must pick one i would go for Eve even though i have never played it, wow has too many faults and a crap community, and blizzard keep on screwing up the classes in pvp to the point you wonder why you bother.

Before I started playing eve I told myself I would never pay for a MMORPG ever, one of my mates had started playing it and sent me a free trial so as it was free I thought I would try it out
OMG! I was hooked from day 1! havn't looked back for the past year and now I am in a decent position to start pvp'ing which I am doing and its a lot of fun! yes you lose ships and money but hey thats what its all about!

Stuff you can do in Eve:
Mine to
- Build
- Sell minerals
- Store mineral's as assets
- Take out contracts to supply corps
- High end mineral's to get rich quick
Pirate
- Go around blowing up everything and anything for no reason
- Belt piracy to ransom ships for ISK
Build a corp/Run a corp to
- See mine (in a group)
- See piracy (in a group)
- declare war on other corps
- declare war on alliances
- form an alliance
- Hunt pirates
- Take out contracts to destroy others
- Make friends

I have been playing WoW now since about 3-4 weeks after its release. It is a good game but has a limited life span and is really just one long grind (either for XP, Money or items). If i didnt have a nice guild on there i would have left about 5 months ago, PvP is pointless. It is a good game but really lacks depth.
I have only been playing Eve for a few days now but im already hooked. It seems to have a LOT of depth to the game and i like the fact that you dont have to grind XP or missions etc to get anywhere and you really can do anything you want to. One minute im flying around in my rifter blowing up rats the next im in my hoarder hauling ore for a mate or doing trade runs. With a good corp i can see that this game could be absoultly amazing.

WOW is limited by the game design and the game supplies content. This is fantastic at first with all the missions and such. But there is a lack of deeper meaning and purpose to it all, aside from lvling up and getting better gear.
EVE is limited by your interaction with other players. Seriously, if you are in an npc corp or a badly run player corp then you will not have much fun. When you do find an awesome group of people to play with its a truly staggering game. There are aspects which are considered boring (for example mining- 90% of people still think that to pvp you need to make money from mining or npc hunting). PVP in eve is second to none - it is the best pvp MMORPG by far. Finally, you do a lot more thinking in eve. How to overcome that enemy gate camp for example. This is so much more rewarding than how to kill some big dragon.

I have been looking at this thread and reading about EVE at their site.
Is this just like a online version of X3?
how much does it cost?
It might be my limited imagination but I cant understand how this can have a long lasting appeal.
Fly around...earn money...get a bigger ship...fly around...more money bigger ship...kill a few people...etc

In some regards it is like X3 online, but more to do. The thing with Eve is that there is very little game designed content. Everything in the world is really built by the players. If you get in a good corp you can work together to do things like make a pirate group and go round killing people, or set up mining and crafting operations to build/sell/use the best stuff, maybe build a station or declare war on another corp and have massive fleet battles.
The main thing is that you can pick any aspect you want to do. If you want to just kill things (and people) you can, if you want to just mine and craft you can, if you want to do both you can.

The only class we can beat without breaking sweat is rogues until they do the above and then we are cannon fodder as per pre 1.6 patch. Ace.

The main difference being EVE is pretty much a player run game (as mentioned earlier) where as WoW can been see as a single player game but with other people helping you (in the way that it is heavy on provided missions etc). Eve is vastly superior in all ways tbh.

Its a bit of a silly question really as they are completely different types of game, maybe compare GW and WOW but not EVE and WOW.
How much is EVE by the way?
I think all online games should be about £5 per month. Thats a nice amount, which wouldnt make you worry about playing or not

In regards to ISK, there can be a lot if you ransom the target. For me this means I get into the belt, get them into structure so I know I can win
, then convo them and ask for x amount of ISK. Big ships = bigger ransoms. If they don't pay then you blow them up and try and ransom the pod for a bit more. If they do pay then they go free to fight another day.Belt piracy in my opinion is the real piracy, in 0.4 or lower systems you go into a belt and do your pirating in the belt itself AND take the security hit for it. 0.0 Piracy isn't mine kinda thing.

Untrue... Irrespective of your control method (you can move around pretty erratically with the mouse), your position is always likely to be stored as a simple vector value. 'Tis perfectly feasibly, but as a mentioned, it was probably omitted for other reasons.
