ever feel like a sucker?

My backup mobile VR box has a unlidded 4690K and a 1070. It streams stuff to the Quest 2 and allows me to run round the garden like a 5-year-old.

Some of us have a natural position of having "the best" when it comes to gaming rigs but dont it ever make you feel a sucker?. I am no exception to this I must have the best tech, after upgrading to DDR5 mobo, ram and ordering 13th gen i9 then comes the RTX 4090 arriving, just as you install it a thought pops into your head you just know it wont be long before the 4090Ti comes forth to ruin our day but you must keep upgrading like a compulsion.
This was me 20 years ago, swopping video cards every few months. 4 kids put a stop to that lol

Seriously not sure why one would ever do this really just "because I must have it". Unless you're an actual mega enthusiast and/or are involved in the industry as part of your employment/whatever it is you do, it's almost always felt like a swindle. There are rare occasions where there's been a sudden gap in software:hardware and then the outlay feels more worth it, but that's rare.

My GTX 1080 and Ryzen 2700x are still going strong. I only play at 1080p so that may explain it. :p

I have been tempted doing a new build seeing how good the new AMD CPU's are, but then I ask myself, what games am I going to be playing that my current setup is struggling with? And I can't think of any. Also, GPU's today seem silly over priced?

Still on a 2500k and 670ti SLI.
My PC is showing signs of dying though, will bluescreen once in a while and is generally slow.

I don't understand why people have this obsession with having the latest of everything. They go out and spend thousands on hardware just to potentially get an extra 20fps in a game they don't even play, or just to flex on a computer forum about their benchmark scores.

Keep your hardware untill it no longer fulfills your needs, then upgrade. I went from a 1070 to a 3080 this year and probably won't upgrade for another 4 or 5 years now.
