I think by the time I retire (in my 30s now), settling down in this country just won't be viable on our pensions etc. I'm expecting to have to move abroad to somewhere cheaper.

Not necessarily. If they have brought up families here, their family overseas has diminished through age and we have a generous pension arrangement through years of NI paid in this country.

Still relative to the ageing population in the UK that are UK nationals the issue can't just be blamed on net migration being negative.

It's not a fix to just ban healthcare for foreign folk it doesn't even scratch the surface of the issue.

Commentators suggesting monetary incentives in the form of capital investments from the UK government in NI infrastructure, will likely be the key to persuading the DUP. Somewhat Ironic when the current topic is that of "buying" support, what are peoples thoughts on this?. If it strays into legacy demands then its going to be very very interesting.

So a few are reporting the end of austerity now. Cant believe after the amount of grief they gave labour of the 'magic money tree' and now they have changed their tune. Just another u turn to add to the list.

I'm guessing they are doing this because they have seen the voting figures for under 55 and know if they carry on they will be out.

So to those who said labour were bribing the students.... Well I guess that means the tories are bribing everyone else

Not to mention the billions they will need to hand to the DUP to secure 10 votes.

so we are going to spend loads of tax payers monies bribing a pseudo terrorist rag tag group to prop up a weak and woeful PM while other parts of the country are left to rot. Yep that's the way to get those aspirational working class blue collar workers to vote for you next time around. May still not learnt a damn thing. Tories going to get smashed into the ground if there is another election within the next 12 months.

The erosion of retirement is going to become a party political issue sooner or later.

It's not my top priority but if a party wanted to legislate for no further rise in state pension age (or even to lock at 65) and put it in their manifesto, I'd be interested.

Not really. If you are filling a skills gap in the market you aren't taking a job from anyone.

When the economy expands, pretty much everything expands, unless somethings are deliberately not expanded (such as police, nurses etc)
With a larger population there is more need for shops, for accountants, for builders etc

If we "send them home" we send them all home, all the service sector contracts etc. Companies will go bust

Its a cluster **** ready to happen

this election has been full of irony
  • Calls someone a terrorist sympathizer for 2 years and then gets into bed with a terrorist sympathiser
  • No money tree and now apparently getting a magic money tree to reverse austerity
  • People saying labour bribes the young and now may is bribing everyone else
  • Voters saying Tories are good with the economy but now they are reversing, spending and now getting into coalition with a party that will demand more money / project to NI

That's about the gist of it. If you think about it, its the only real option because if they start making legacy demands such as immunity to loyalists for historical "crimes" then its all going to go south fast. They have already said that their policies are devolved anyway and they have no interest in seeing them expand to the mainland. Its clear that a massive ££££££££ investment will be outgoing, how ironic.

I'm not expecting to ever be able to retire.
You could if you didn't spend all your money on nice cars. But I know what I'd spend my money on if I were you, exactly what you do :)
My plan is to work and save a bit until I can retire for 10 years ish in my mid 50s. Retire then, spend about 10 years enjoying myself and not working. Then kill myself.
I don't see a long retirement as something I'd enjoy.
