OK so now we switch in pompous... I'm happy to put forth the same statement but with that word switched in too...
Your statement is meaningless.

Politicians need to be respectable and clearly articulate reasoned arguments without resorting to pettiness.

Guess what, rapists, sociopaths and necrophiles also shouldn't be politicians. You see its perfectly acceptable to have characteristics that are not desirable for a politician and being an arrogant git is one of them.

I'm not surprised JRM lost his rag a bit, Jon Snow was being a bell. What's the point in asking questions if you won't let them be answered without constant interruption?

your statement is meaningless.. you can substitute in pompous, arrogant, whatever works you like - the previous comment was regarding people treating party politics like supporting football team

sure the MP featured is a bit posh sounding but I don't see his argument there as being particularly arrogant or pompous and frankly choosing to never support a party because one member is perceived as such is frankly ridiculous

as for comparing a posh sounding bloke to being a rapist that is utterly facetious

We can offset the assets we have jointly paid for. We won't pay a penny, just watch.

Liabilities>assets. Yes it's not going to be the made up £100b by the British press or the initial £50b the eu mentioned. I reckon it will be around £30-35b. If you think it's going to be zero you are delusional

yet Corbyn wants to exit the EU and the single market...

Sigh no he doesn't. It's been quoted over and over from the manifesto. Stay in the single market and get control of our immigration. If immigration not possible, single market access more important.

I'd like to see Vince in charge of the Lib-Dems. Not sure if they can stomach being in another Tory led coalition though. We really need some sensible politicians back in charge, it's not a game.

If you look at Vince Cable's CV/prediction of 2008 and remember that the coalition made him "Business Secretary" just as Data Entry for the NHS/Selfridges man, Osborne became Chancellor for the Austerity death spiral, you'd wonder if he'd jump back into bed with the Tories?

sigh yes he does, this really isn't hard to understand and frankly you should have informed yourself of this back when we had the EU referendum - free movement of people is part of the single market... the EU has been absolutely clear that you can't have access to the single market without freedom of movement

ref: Corbyn - he too has been clear on this, I really don't know why people are getting this so wrong:

note he's not saying we stay in the single market as you're claiming above, he's stating quite clearly that we cease to be members of the single market and free movement ends...

And in his manifesto he wants to get a deal which gives us same access to the single market and if that mean FOM then so be it. That will do me. Jobs and proposperity before FOM

And in his manifesto he wants to get a deal which gives us same access to the single market and if that mean FOM then so be it. That will do me. Jobs and proposperity before FOM

quote the bit you're referring to - you'll find you're mistaken, again

the single market includes freedom of movement - if you don't have freedom of movement you're not going to be part of the single market - this has been made clear by the EU

not sure if it actually states that TBH

We will scrap the Conservatives’ Brexit White Paper and replace it with fresh negotiating priorities that have a strong emphasis on retaining the benefits of the Single Market and the Customs Union – which are essential for maintaining industries, jobs and businesses in Britain. Labour will always put jobs and the economy first.

and

Labour recognises that leaving the EU with ‘no deal’ is the worst possible deal for Britain and that it would do damage to our economy and trade. We will reject ‘no deal’ as a viable option and if needs be negotiate transitional arrangements to avoid a 'cliff-edge’ for the UK economy.

and

A Labour government will ensure that the UK maintains our leading research role by seeking to stay part of Horizon 2020 and its successor programmes and by welcoming research staff to the UK. We will seek to maintain membership of (or equivalent relationships with) European organisations which offer benefits to the UK such as Euratom and the European Medicines Agency. We will seek to ensure that Britain remains part of the Erasmus scheme so that British students have the same educational opportunities after we leave the EU.

which I guess could be loosely translated as we want single market + involvement in EU research projects and will put that first rather than take no deal so by default could mean will take FOM as the price for keeping them ?

Exactly "Freedom of movement will end when we leave the European Union."

The word 'free' appears 39 times in the Labour manifesto lolololololoooollol

...43 times in the conservative one but all more sensible examples... lol

that would be reaching a bit - while he might want to maintain lots of collaboration with the EU you can't take that to imply full single market access... especially when he's answered that question himself directly in the clip above

New lib dem leader , new con lib coalition.

I would prefer this to the dup tbh.

me too :)

yeah thats why I said loosely translated. I don't think it alludes to that at all TBH hence the question mark at the end of my sentence as I was in effet posing it as a question to Greebo

This. All my northern Irish friends are saying that a DUP arrangement will have serious consequences.

its going to happen though as May is power hungry and there is no way the Libs will enter into any deal to hand Tories power again.

You might think Corbyn "rebranding" what would amount to a climb down from the EU on tariff free trade (i.e. without all the requisites of FOM etc) as us "leaving the single market" would be his/Labour's "tuition fees moment", I think it makes him smart.

Unlike avoiding all Tax and running for president, or slinging mud at the people we need to negotiate with!

This is literally talking to yourself but, for those who totally missed the recent stories about McDonnel and Corbyn supporting crashing out of the Single Market, you simply don't understand the value of an all round face saving rebranding of the single market!

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/brexit-single-market-jeremy-corbyn_uk_593d320ee4b02402687a2460

The above is called negotiating, calling the people you will negotiate with names, suggesting you are an awkward woman and holding hands with Trump is called idiocy!

ah, fair enough

I think he's just mistaken as to what the manifesto includes, he's not the only one... it seems various people who would have probably had views more in line with the Lib Dems have voted for Labour in this election without fully appreciating what they were voting for. As a result of being a nice/likeable character people seem to be willing to cast all sorts of views onto Corbyn despite him being pretty clear in his statement re: the single market.

I too would be happy with a Lib/Con coalition again without May at the helm.
