Presumably the people saying that Labour voters are all unemployed would in the next breath complain about members of trade unions all voting Labour.

No one has said that they are all unemployed just that labour voters tend to be in situations where they need a lot of state help according to that table.

Well I have to say congratulations n111ck for using all that time saved from skipping school to get yourself into a position where you need nothing from the state. As a taxpayer I am grateful for your sacrifice.

If they've got single market in the manifesto, then there's going to be compromise somewhere.

no they haven't

this goes back to my point about people not really know what they're voting for

both Labour and the Conservatives have stated they'd control immigration, both parties would need to leave the single market... this really shouldn't be hard to understand yet bizarrely some people still don't get it

I thought this was more interesting

It seems if your active, working or looking for work your more likely to vote Labour.
Its only those who are comfortable in retirement that seem to vote conservatives and they vote in numbers thanks to being the baby boomers.

Given the recent result, that shows that the Conservatives only need to make marginal gains with all demographics outside the retired and they would be rewarded with very significant gains in seats won. The reverse is true for Labour.

The Conservatives challenge would appear to be greater and is a very diverse target. Labour just need to get a few extra percent of pensioners on board.

There's still none EU immigration to control.

Don't forget 51.7% (labour voters) on this forum are more likely to be unemployed.... OCUK how are you going to get people to buy stuff when majority of people who visit your site are pennyless?

Far off retirement age? It's only half way through working life for most people. Yes the rich perhaps. Which matches the stat that 53% of all Tory voters own their own home with no mortgage.

There's still a fair number of (non rich) that retire at 55. Point being is most people will have 25-30 years of work under their belt before they will statistically be more likely to vote conservative than labour in this election.

How much of that is to do with Brexit - as it points out age is the most important factor this time round - I don't know.

It could be argued that the collapse of the smaller parties votes and the age demographics point to Brexit being a very strong driver. The older generation which overwhelmingly support Brexit were perhaps swayed by Mays "strong and stable" hard Brexit rhetoric while the younger generations may have decided to vote for "anyone but May", tactically voting for Labour - even though they weren't a remain option, at least they were anti "no deal".

Social class and employment status were much less a factor in this election than the past, with age being much more important

LOLWUT?

If you are a student, not working, unemployed or other you are more likely to vote Labour - hardly surprising- gimmebenefits
What point are you making? That people are self-interested? Pensioners support the party that introduced the triple-lock pension and were in an uproar about the suggestion that the winter fuel allowance might become means tested.
