Eh? Parliaments cant last more than 5 years.

The most popular party is in power.
I'm not northern Irish or religious.

Curiously...What do you think of trump being in power... He wasnt the most popular...
So your thoughts are...
We're not talking about a longer....but a shorter period of time
Read the thread - my comment was specifically in a response to a post about an election in 5 years causing a hung parliament.
In 5 years we have to have one - now we don't - not sure what is so hard to understand?
Even with a working majority of 14 in place for specific votes, its not enough for a government with no care for the national interest. If there was an appetite within the conservative party for more cross parliament co-operation then I could imagine it might last but they don't. I will eat the internet if its 5 years before we have an election. I would surprised if we aren't back to the polls within 12 months.
I'm not sure, the initial panic reaction by the Tories was to start getting the knives out, et tu Brutes style, but they calmed down and the daggers look to have been sheathed for now.
So if she survives the summer recess she'll last a while longer.
Sheathed because for now none of them want to upset the cart before the Queens speech vote and sheathed for amendments only because they know the perceived impact of losing a vote. Just look at today's announcement from Justine Greening regarding NHS access to abortion services for NI women in the UK. It was known that 40+ Tory MP's would vote against their own party, they knew they would lose that so backed down.
